My quest for a basic windshield has been tough. Looking for a basic, stripped down windshield that solely covers the brackets is what I have been in search of.

Not being a fan of custom jobs I decided to wait before going down that path by thinking out of the box a little bit. I started looking into similarly sized flat-things if you will that could fit the bill. I looked into something that I knew of from my past, and that was bmx number plates.

I bought a number plate from a company called Box. The large version in black. Hopefully photos attach from my phone to this post. If the number plate was just a tad bit bigger we would have had a perfect winner. Easy on, easy off install with velcro, and will work perfectly on those hot summer days or off road adventures that leave you wanting more airflow. This isn't the end of my search, and I look forward to seeing the response of others!

Something to add is that this is obviously not final, I am going to keep searching and will report on my findings and tests here. If you have any ideas don't hesitate to post them here of course!

I just took 3" off the stock windshield, and a little off the sides for a summer shield. Have an elevated touring one for all the rest.
That is something I actually measured out and contemplated starting off...but got cold feet cutting the stock shield.

I have a spare piece of lexan I am going to cut if I don't find what I'm looking for and it's a possibility.

Moose Racing makes this small one for the first generation Vstroms. It's 4" shorter than the stocker and the only one I liked for 3 out of 4 seasons.

A Super Tenere screen 2-3" shorter would be nice

The Powerbronze 360mm screen for the '10-'13 S10 will fit if you remove the windscreen adjustment bracket & the trim piece under it & get the '10-'13 trim panel & the 2 trim pieces that go on the outside of the screen to cover up the other holes.

OX! you were the inspiration to start looking for mini-shield options and to just figure out my own. plus that light setup is godlike...

i ended up re-positioning the number plate to sit higher about half an inch to an inch to cover the brackets a bit better towards the top. I'm going to go the custom route next week i think if i had the time/if the weather is bad and keeps me off the bike lol. glad to see there are others here that went the route of a smaller shield.

i have a hard time justifying the $100 on a powerbronze shield currently, which i bet this project is going to bring me to that price point alone, i'm trying to weigh out other options before going that route. i think the number plate thing has me onto something...

I bought the shorty from Cal Sci for my 2013. It's the size (-2") and look I want for a summer screen but I haven't had an opportunity to take it for a test ride. I hope it doesn't disappoint, it's not cheap.

You inspired me for a summer windshield. Bought one for 20.00 on eBay. This is listed for a gen 2 FZ1.
