I sold my 2012 s10 for a 2014 vstrom and aside from a way better stock suspension, I don't like the vstrom too much, everything on that bike rattles or vibrates.

Anything deals to be had out there on one of the newer s10?

Any issues with the ES? Is it worth it?

There are 3 in our For Sale section, more on ADV, and CycleTrader.com as always.

ES is worth it to me, but I'm of the mind an adjustable suspension you never adjust isn't useful. ES makes adjusting the suspension easily done and I do so as conditions dictate.

I'm partial to new, but more curious in the ES and if it's worth it.
In general, ES owners will tell you they are worth it. Non-ES owners will typically say it's not worth it to them. Being in NY, you will probably want heated grips anyway, so why not go all the way? In my opinion, an ES will be easier to sell if you have to. Same way with YES, easier to resell if you have it.

Non-ES owners may indicate the additional complexity is just another thing to fail (though I have not seen any failure complaints), or plan to make their own mods to beef up the suspension.

The ES adds about 8 lbs for what that's worth on an already hefty bike.

Whilst I admit I am biased, I reckon the ES alternative is a worthwhile investment. Mine is a white 2014 ES, ex-demo.

I have needed to use all the preload settings regularly & having damping adjustment on the fly helps at times too. However, if I just rode solo & only took luggage occasionally, then the simplicity of the non-ES bike has it's merits. Many riders here use their S10 off road regularly where, again, simplicity can be important. At re-sale, the ES bikes appear to be in short supply, so prices seem to hold up.

The big Yamaha is a well sorted, quality machine & I think you will enjoy the Gen2 upgrades, whichever model you choose ......................... KEN

I'm on my 2nd S10. This latest one has ESA and to tell you the truth I don't use it much. Next time I'd skip the ESA and just add Heated Grips. Also easier to change the Fork Oil on the Standard version.

When I was shopping for a Super Tenere earlier this year, I was hell bent on getting an ES. Well, I found a lightly used '14 non ES in a price range of most '12 or '13 models, so I snatched it up. 8,000 miles later, I find that the manually adjustable suspension is totally fine for my use. I've never been one to fiddle with suspension settings a whole lot. I've owned three bikes over the past several years with ESA but I never really messed with the system much. In fact, on one of the bikes, the suspension ECU (Japanese manufctured) crapped out. Luckily the bike was still under warranty.

My bottom line: If something were to happen to my current ST I would definitely replace it with another ST, but it most likely wouldn't be one with ESA, especially if I went brand new.

The ES on the S10 actually works and it is effective. It's fairly easy to adjust too. If you are person who travels on different terrains with varying luggage/passenger loads, the convenience of adjusting the preload and damping with switch is worth the extra money spent on ES. Just my opinion.

I had ES on my '14 and never thought about it until 1 day going down a washboard section of road. Remembered I had ES, hit the button, softened the ride and instant bliss. I think its worth the money but if there was a smoking hot deal on a non ES bike I would consider it.
