+1 on symmetry and a tool tube
This is what I had on my last V-Strom, using the same size Caribou (Pelican) bags. I just felt that this time around I would get more benefit from a larger bag on the non-exhaust side than having a space/tool tube - especially when that larger bag is my wife's!!!!

:D

How is everyone mounting them? To the front, rear, top, bottom? Need to mount the latch and am undecided. From a mass centralization perspective it makes sense to have them forward and down. Top mount is good if you are setting up the large platform. Is rear better for the pillion? Please provide any reasoning.

Also, anyone else notice that the bolt threaded into the footpeg could be much longer. I am afraid to tighten them down to the torque specs cause the threads felt like they started to give. I will be buying longer bolts.

Mine are high and back. I dunno ... High mainly because I don't want to stoop any more than necessary to get stuff, and back just to give me more room to get off the bike. I never carry passengers.

I don't recall about the footpeg bolt. I don't remember having any concerns about it. R
