Just put my Micatech Bags on last night and thought I would post a few pics. This is with them mounted in the high position and to the rear.
The bags are really nice, the SWMotech racks could be a better fit IMHO. I think they stick out too far and are wider at the front than the rear.

Is it possible to get a rack for the right side that sticks it out the same distance as the left side? I like symmetry, and I'm thinking I could fill the gap with a tool tube or something.

The SWMotech racks are all the same, not symmetrical. I do not know of one that is the same offset left and right.

Hey Devin, aren't they great!! 8)

Is your right side bag level? Mine sits at a slight angle and I'm wondering if it's just me (I'm going to loosen all the hardware and mess with it tonight).

Mine appear to sit at the same level. There is some slop in the fit of the hardware so maybe you can address it there.
My left bag tapers in more than the right at the rear. That is just the way the rack is made. I don't know what SWMotech was thinking there.

Man I gotta say, i was planning on Jesse bags, but these Micatechs are looking really nice! Do you know the overall width difference b/w them and Jesse's? I really like how slim Jesse is able to keep the overall set up.

I've got the same ones Devin except I did a Yamaha red/white reflective pattern on side and rear. Now I just need a bike to put them on. These have grown on me from first time I saw them and price was way better for quality bags than Jesses--like them but didnt' want to give up grab rails. I've got a SW motech skid plate and that altrider rear rack too. We need a national meet to compare bikes and have fun. I got the roofracks too so I can drink a can of diet coke at 75 mph ;D.

After Speedstar mentioned it, I went out and looked at my set up. The cases measure over 39 1/4" total width at the front and 37 3/4" at the back!

The racks cause the cases to be splayed like the foot of a duck if said duck is facing towards the front of the bike. That's a 3/4" kick on each side. That's a HUGE amount on a case that's 18" in length.

Hard to believe SW-Motech would design their racks this way! I wonder if they'll exchange them???

You guys that haven't ordered your luggage yet and are considering going with an SW Motech set up, may want to hold off until more guys report in. Maybe it's just Speedstar and I that got these screwy racks. Then again, maybe not.

Hepco-Becker and Givi are both symmetrical racks.

I think I've heard that too.
Wasp's mounts were splayed out like that too, before he cut them up.

I have the same set up just no bike to mount them onto. I can say that on my DL the motech racks are a bit sloppy, and have loads of adjustment in them. I am sure that if there is that much difference with them from front to back, I will be retro-fitting the works. Thanks for the great shots though, can't wait to get my bike one of these days...

I just went out and looked at my SW Mo racks and Micatech panniers. They do tend to flare just a bit in the front, but if you look at them from the front, they are consistent with the lines of the bike. I think it would look weird if they were exactly parallel with each other. It also may allow a little better air flow around the panniers. I dunno. I think they look fine.

Look at Speedstar's fourth pic down from the top. IF the panniers were nosed in at the front more, they would look weird in my opinion. R

I think they look fine. The rack on the left follows the line of the muffler cover. If it was not flared out in the front, it would look incongruous to the bike. At some point, the appearance won't make much difference anyway. You will be mostly concerned with their durability and functionality. These are really sturdy panniers. I like them very much. I think any of the top of the line panniers would work just fine. R

I agree with you Rem, the design follows the natural taper to the rear. I think they look ok from the pic, but will inspect closer when I have something to inspect. :D
