Been 16,000 miles since I have had the EXP's on. (or ANY road tire, actually)

But no way will I forget how well they performed when they were on.

I've probably labeled myself as a dirty Tenere rider over the last 18 months. And rightfully so. I now pursue the off-road Tenere adventure with a vengeance. But the FIRST thing I did with my Texas Tenere is hightail it to the dragon, and all the amazing surrounding world class tarmac.

Those were the only tires I wore to the edges. They stuck very well. I learned my Tenere while on them. Each day they earned a little more trust and finally had me willing to ride the Tenere like a street bike. And when the weather turned foul, they amazed me again. Coming home through Arkansas, I was in some nasty, windy, downpours. Slowly but surely the widdled away at my wet weather timidity and I found them to be far more capable than I was compensating for.

At about 4500 miles, I yanked em and changed to dirty rider. I haven't ridden on tarmac with anywhere near the aggression since. I have chicken stripes on all my tires since. Because I AM chicken. I just don't push nearly as hard with the tires I run now.

Anyways, I am sure there are other great tarmac tires for the Tenere. But I thought the EXP's were pretty darn good. They earned my trust.

Probably harder to find bad tyre these days

I would be happy on the street with any premium sport touring or "90 / 10" tyre, Dunlop / Michelin / Metzeler / Pirelli / Continental / Bridgestone. Even in track reviews most are reported as being pretty decent on dry tracks with most noticeable differences showing up in the wet. In the dry 99% of us would struggle to find the limits of any of these tyres, and in the wet 99% of us probably back off so much anyway we would still be fine on the worst of them.

I like to know the tyre always has a bit in reserve for when I run out of skill, so tend to look for a deal on one of the top tyres and ones reported good in the wet, normally pure road tyres win so I tend to fit them for my 99% road use.

I think it is "trust" that most people like, confidence in a tyre makes people ride better, I know riders who love a particular brand and always stick with them, the king of the crop changes almost yearly PR1 / Roadsmart / BT-023 / PR3 / Roadsmart 3 - probably all much better than anyone really needs, I have always had good experiences with Dunlop and therefore often buy them - but if a deal comes up on a Metzeler or Michelin I will swap for a set.

I didn't run the exp's on the s10, but i had them once on my dl1000. The tire was great for the first 5-6kkm then all the feeling got lost even though there was enough thread left. It was some scary shit being leaned down in the corner and not getting anything from the tire...

I will never run em on any of my bikes again.

My second Tenere came with the Tourance on them. Took them off at 2,300 miles to install the K60's. Don't remember anything bad about them, other than they were clearly not going to last to 5K miles on my bike. I still have them in the barn and will put them on my wife's bike when her Anakee IIs are dead. She can make a tire go much longer than me.

Have had Metzler Tourance (normal/original blend) and EXPs on a number of bikes now. For a road tire I prefer the Tourance normal over the EXP for the longer life, especially the rears. Metzler is coming out with a newer generation of the Tourance (newer than the EXP's which they say will have the same character but last longer. Will be interesting to see what testers think about the new tire. ::017::
