Love'm? hate'm?

The wife got me this new Joe Rocket Yamaha racing mesh jacket for my birthday....seems really nice and should do the job. I never used one before but its gotta be better than wearing just a t-shirt and cooler than my FG Kilimanjaro jacket.

I should fit in with all my Harley buddies and their HD everything gear ::025::

I bought an el-cheapo Speed and Strength mesh jacket last summer. I think is was $60 on closeout at motorcyclegear.com. With TX summers, the temps are more often over 100F than under. While I would like to upgrade to something nicer with better armor, I love the air flow. I can't ride without wearing some kind of jacket. I feel naked (or vulnerable/exposed) without one. ATGATT!

I've got one by First Gear. Had it for 6-7 years now and I've loved it. Makes riding tolerable during the South Texas summers. Much, much cooler than my leather jacket.

It's getting a bit tattered. Might be time to replace it soon. It's nice to actually wear something out!

After crash testing one I went back to cordura with good venting. The fabric held up
Pretty well but some seams turned loose, also the open weave grabbed the pavement instead of sliding, causing me to tumble (ouch). FYI FG kilimanjaro air

For me mesh jackets provide a cool front, but my back gets no air, so it gets hot. I prefer a jacket that flows air up the sleeves and inflates. Then you get moving air all over you, some even comes out the neck closure. The jacket I have and recommend is an Aerostitch Darien Light. The inflation is just an inch or so, you don't end up looking like the Michelin Man.

I had a mesh jacket for years. I found it very comfortable in the 70-85 degF range.

Have always been afraid of mesh from a protection standpoint, but my Klim Latitude can get pretty miserable in the Florida summer.

Am considering trying the Klim Induction Mesh jacket this summer. It's spendy, but it purports to be more protective than regular poly-mesh and comes with D30 armor and a waterproof liner.

Again, not cheap, but if it's quality is on par with my other Klim stuff it will last.

I can't say I've ever crash tested a mesh jacket, but I will say they are fantastic for keeping you cool. I'd argue even better than a t-shirt because they keep the sun off of you.

While we're at it, same thing with mesh pants. Awesome air flow, better than jeans, IMO, and knee and hip pads to boot.

I've had several mesh jackets and the son crash tested his Olympia, which held up surprisingly well.

The key is not the key aspect. It's that you are able to keep the armor in place on the elbows and the waist won't let the back pad ride up, exposing your hips and lower back.

Many offroad and one relatively bad onroad spill with my Olympia Airglide and I am no worse for wear. The jacket held up fine as well and is going strong 7 years after purchase. I am now using a Klim full cordura jacket that simply does not vent that well in the mere 60 degree temps we are currently having. So I fully foresee going back to the tried-and-true Olympia Airglide once temps get consistently higher. Can't ever foresee a time where a basic but solid HiViz mesh jacket will not be in my arsenal. I have a Joe rocket from way back and still works great.
I like to wear a long sleeve "T" shirt under it. You sweat
a little then its like air conditioning ::008:: when you start
to move .

I bought a HG Mesh jacket when they had a huge closing down sale, it has back, elbow and shoulder armour and the "mesh" parts are in areas less likely to impact the road (front / inside of arms).

I don't see it being as strong as my normal jacket, but is great in really hot weather (only a few days a year over here) if I want to run an errand, pootle to work or go for a day out on back lanes, for linger runs / touring I take my normal jacket, if I had the space when touring I would carry one for when it gets really hot.

Just ordered the Klim Induction. I like my Badlands as long as i'm moving, but for commuting in slow traffic I really cook in them especially the left side when the fans goes.

Hey Kamenrider.... how'd that Induction pan out for you? Can you comment on sizing and fit as compared to your Badlands Pro? I have the Badlands and am pondering a mesh jacket upgrade to the Induction. It sounds like sizing is a bit hard if you use the charts at the online retailers alone. What has your fit experience been?

Motoport Air Mesh Kevlar Jacket & Pants with tri-armor. Not cheap, but neither are skin grafts. Motoport's stretch kevlar products work and breathe in the low 90's but get hot any higher than that.

YMMV

Also stand behind Motoport 100% for a custom taylored fit as well as any option you would like to add. Pricey but well worth it in my opinion because skin is not replacable. The Mesh fabric will flow more air then the stretch but it is a little abrasive if its rubbing or contacting any painted area on the bike.

::026:: on Motoport. I have crash tested MP gear and the gear did its job well, . They will also repair crash tested gear for free and resize your gear for a reasonable fee. I do find that my Olympian jacket is a bit cooler in the hot humid Florida summers though.

++++1 for Motoport.

Great protection and they can make any size for any rider; definitely a good thing for those of us not in the center of the bell curve.
