Yeah, they were actually one of the first places I applied. They seem not to be looking for experienced software developers. They can pay kids just out of college a lot less ...or so I understand....

Have you tried Intuit? I just checked their job listings and there are at least 30 software engineering jobs listed in San Diego:

I know a few people at Intuit and it seems to be a pretty nice place to work.

Somehow, Intuit had not come up in my searches. A lot of their Software Engineering positions are at a senior level, but I found one that I felt qualified for, and applied.
