In 2013, these bozos conducted an ADV "test" with the S10, Multistrada, BM and KTM. The only offroad they rode was in a parking lot and picked the Ducati as winner simply because it had the best exhaust note. Later that year, a proper offroad test was cobbled together in which they ran the Yamaha without a skid plate and promptly smashed the engine case, blaming the bike. No Credibility.

My hope is that Dainese bought ad space for their new Explorer jacket ad using Valentino Rossi as an expensive coat hanger, standing in front of his trusty Tenere. Look for that last part to be cropped out.

Have you heard of 'ferreting'? Some pro footballers (soccer) enjoy another pastime called............. well I'll just leave that for now, but it takes it's name from canines ::017::

Even the new GS is quicker, if you have the time to take it back for all the recalls and can put up with the odd breakdown or twenty on your way to 100k.

...odd how they think the only bike that has not had a glut of problems is a poor long term proposition

Oh, sorry I am wrong, that is not odd, it is because they are total smurfwits

I know many bikes are faster, more exciting, lighter, better looking, quicker steering, but it still does everything I need, cheaply and reliably as well, fast enough to get banned, rugged enough to take off road, comfy enough to ride around the planet - and reliable enough to do so as well.
Reality.... Well the ST is the heaviest and has less power. Major maintenance is a PITA, owners as well as dealer have have botched the valve adjustment process, and CCT failures at 45-50k miles have been reported.
Mr. Rasher, the LC GS/GSA completed user beta test and are very reliable, and form where I sit, the best all arounder of the bunch. The electronic are fanominal and light years ahead of the ST, that may not be of interest to the folks here but it works well for me.

Truth is there ain't a bad bike in the bunch....... Just different bikes.

OK, enough from me now back to the regular scheduled bashing of other brands! ::018::

It's not as much "bashing" other brands, as it is defending the ridiculous brush offs by the clueless press. (and their disciples)

I think sometimes the press does put too much emphasis on HP and not enough emphasis on practical everyday riding capability, but I never see a need to defend my choice of what I ride. I'm riding the one that makes me smile, that's all that matters to me. Ya know I luv my Vespa, and I ride it several times a week and rose it across the USA because ...................it makes me smile!

Based on my ownership experience with a Super Tenere and a LC GSA, and a few hours sear time on a KTM I'd say the comparison by Rider Magazine in August of '14 is right on and reflects my experience and impressions. Of the three manufactures only KTM advertised in that issue.

When it comes to weight and HP the scale and dyno are a reasonable measure and most reviews ding the ST for it's higher weight and lower HP.

Worrying what others think does nothing to change their view or alter the facts....... why bother. If they all thought like snake the world would be overloaded with Willie Nelson lok a likes.

Stop believing the brochures. The fact is they are all fat pigs and it really depends on what you have bolted onto them, but one thing is clear, all the manufacturers are a little disingenuous when it comes to weight.

Sure, the more you bolt on the heavier it gets, and maybe motorcycle manufactures are like most women and lie about their weight. Are you suggesting the ST is not the heaviest of the bunch as it comes from the factory? Are you suggesting weight doesn't matter?

No I'm suggesting you compare like for like, i.e. fully kitted models that you would take on the road complete with fluids, e.g. from the first link...

BMW GS 1200 Adventure.

Claimed weight: 90% fueled, road ready: 259kg's
Actual weight: Fully fueled: 273kg's

Yamaha Super Tenere

Claimed weight (wet): 261kg's
Actual weight (Wet): 268kg's

And now tell me that 5 or 10kg matter in the real world anyway on anything except a race bike.

Im so happy to see a few folks "keeping it real" on the weight comparisons. At times I felt like I was on an island.

Weight is a silly attribute in this genre. How these big pigs carry they're weight is a much fairer and appropriate attribute.

And this bike does that as good as any of them. Marvelous, in fact.

She's a well engineered pack mule.
Unappreciated by the clueless bench adventurers'.

But still, it doesn't drive me crazy. I promise. Well, not real crazy anyways. Lol
