For my wife's last few bikes we've had an unofficial tradition of taking the first trip on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Nice road, constant, but easy curves and light traffic. A good place to get familiar a new bike. She only had about 300 miles on the Tenere and the BRP was calling. Out intention was to do the trip this weekend. The forecast was crappy, but they are often wrong. So we left after work on Thursday.
Sitting in the hotel Thursday night the weather radar did not look good for BRP, so we set our sights on the fantastic roads of SE Ohio. Some of the best roads anywhere. After riding Rt33 (one of my favorites) out of Harrisonburg, VA we decided to give her some dirt road experience on the Tenere. West Virginia has awesome dirt roads. We ended up spending hours in the mountains on the dirt roads and she did great. Even when the Fender Extenda locked the front fender into the skid plate she didn't miss a beat...after I fixed it.
We spent so much time on the dirt roads we only made it to the middle of WV by the end of the day. We headed east a little to hit Seneca Rock and grab a cabin for the night. It started to rain as we were putting down our kickstands for the evening. Perfect timing.
This morning it was obvious the forecast had been pretty accurate and it was going to piss down rain for the next two days. Neither one of us really wanted to spend two days of rain riding so we pointed the bikes back home. In three days of riding I don't think we were ever more than 200 miles from home. That's got to be some kind of record for us. Still a good time and she is really getting comfortable on the Tenere...even if she still has less than 1K miles on the bike.
Going home we saw some pretty cool fog rolling up the mountains. I was kicking myself for having the helmet camera in the bag at that point. Here's some of what I did get on the trip.
