in my quest for a quieter cockpit, I thought I might give the Madstad bracket a try. That was informed by a couple of things: first, I had one on weestrom years ago that seemed to help and second, I find adjusting the Gen. 2 OEM bracket a PITA. And so, I ordered one from Madstad. It came quickly, was well packed, and nicely finished:

Installation was about ten minutes. It comes with instructions but for some reason the photo within appears to be of an earlier prototype as the screen mounts are in the wrong position (in vs out). The verbiage points that out but in case you don't tend to read all of the instructions all of the time the Gen. 2 version has the knobs to the inside and the screen mount tabs to the outside like this:

And so, how does it compare to the OEM unit?

-first, the cross bars on this thing is a full 7/8ths bar stock which means mounting GPS or whatnot to it is going to be very easy. I haven't actually done that yet but it's nice to have options. I also happen to think it looks better than the skinny little OEM bar.

-like the stock bracket, it provides height adjustment. Unlike the stocker tho it also has tilt adjustment as well. For instance, here is the bracket in its lowest position with my Parabellum Tall tilted fully back:

Now same height setting but tilted fully forward:

this time at the highest setting, full back and then full forward tilt:

That's about 4" of tilt on my screen which for you add-a-washer adjustment fans would be a whole lot of washers. The really nice bit is you can do all that in about ten seconds, with heavy gloves on, from your seat. While I would not recommend trying it while moving, it does make the option of pulling over briefly and adjusting it as the weather changes or the wind comes around well within scope.

Now, to the main question: does it provide a Goldwing-like pocket of dead air? Well, not really, it's still a relatively smaller screen sitting quite a bit ahead of you. It does seem to quite things down a bit tho, particularly at lower heights with the screen tilted back. That plus the speed of adjustment is more than worth the price of admission.

Good info, thanks ::008::
I may end up trying that bracket.

I just installed a Parabellum medium shield and in the low position the hand guards hit the shield at full lock.

Do you have the winglets on your S10? Just curious if you did and which ones you had. the older ones or the new ones.

There's quite a difference in the Madstad bracket between the Gen 1 and Gen 2 S10 models. The bracket for the Gen 1 S10 is a mirror image of that shown in the photos posted by rider33. The lips that the windscreen bolts onto face inside, not outside. The knobs that lock the adjustment in place are on the outside, not inside.

I have the OEM sidewind deflectors. 'Not sure if they are old or new but it was the ones spec' for the Gen. 2 models. A lot of the reason I post this stuff is because in looking around online much of what I find is in reference to the Gen. 1 bike which, as Juan points out, can be more different than you might think. To Shovelhead ('nice bike that) I never had a problem with the Parabellum tall hitting the bars at lock, maybe the tall is different or just maybe in set up they had your brush guard tweeted forward a bit, 'might be worth a check.

I loved my Madstad on my 2012 S10. I think I will get one for my 2014 because I like that it is much more adjustable than the OEM bracket.

I have this bracket on my 2014ES. I bought the tinted windshield for them when I purchased the bracket. The tinted screen because, in my opinion, does not allow for reflective light with was an issue with some of my older shields. It all works very well. Put it straight up when I want to stay a bit warmer/not eat lots of bugs. Move it down and back when I want some air when it is very hot/humid. Madstad, in my opinion, makes a very good quality product.

I haven't actually tried it but as the holes for the Parabellum and the stock shield have the same spacings I certainly would think so. In fact with a smaller shield (less weight and bulk) I would think it might work even better. By the way, I forgot to mention that Madstad includes 4 "T" head screws for the shield in case you buy their shield as well I assume. I used them to put the Parabellum on which means taking the shield off to change or clean it should be a pretty simple no-tools-needed type of thing. Really, I have no connection with this company other than having bought a couple of brackets from them in the last ten or so years but this thing works WAY better than the stock Gen 2 item and the combination of height + tilt gives you a lot of adjustment options. It sort of makes you wonder why the OEM item needs to be such a PITA...

The windshield fits on the Madstad bracket for the Gen 1 S10. I see no reason why this does not apply to the Gen 2 models.
