Madstad bracket and windshield

I just installed the madstad bracket and their 20" windshield. I must say it is a huge improvement over the stock shield. Most of the buffeting is gone. I am wondering if the addition of the side deflectors will take care of even more. Do any of you have this setup? Just want to check in with the experts before spending more money.

Thanks!

I have a madstad on my 2013 with a Givi windscreen and the side deflectors. It works well, with no buffeting. I can ride at highway speed with my visor up with no wind or buffeting. I am happy with this setup.

I have a MadStad bracket with a Parabellum 24" windshield + the OEM Yamaha deflectors. All is good and calm----can't say it is any better than the Parabellum on the stock bracket and the Yamaha deflectors as both set ups are very good. There is no buffeting and I ride with the faceshield up most of the time.

The only reason i can see to use a MadStad on a Gen2 is to use a Gen1 windshield. I would rather buy a new Gen2 windshield. I have a 2015 ES and the OEM Tall windshield.

ditto, but I leave the face shield mostly down because my voice on long trips sounds better when I sing with it almost closed. I to do a bit of mod-ing to make the wind deflectors off my '12 fir the '15ES. I only run the Parabellum & deflectors in the brutal Florida winters.

Florida winters and paper cuts are the worst :)). I had the Madstad with their 20" windshield at first but added the Parabellum 24" windshield instead. It just works better with the extra width on top along with the oem deflectors. I cut down the stock one to make a shorty for summer time off-roading. I also added some stabilizer braces to the Madstad bracket. The bouncing of the windscreen I did not care for.

Thanks to all. I was kind of wondering about the Madstad brand windscreen being the culprit. The Madstad sheild looks "simpler" than some of the others like Givi or Parabellum. Meaning the others may work better at directing the wind. As i mentioned, the buffeting is way better, but not gone. Maybe I will try to put the stock shield back on the madstad bracket to see if that solves it first.

My main question is how big of a difference do the side deflectors make? I have read differing opinions on this. It probably has to do with different helmets, jackets, windscreens, rider size, panniers, etc. I would assume all of those change the air flow. Either way, let me know if you added the side deflectors and what you noticed. Are they worth it? ::017::

Does the Madstad bracket on a Gen2 reduce the vibration seen with an accessory bar mounted GPS?

Thanks,

Tom

Unfortunately I don't know if I can answer that for you. I am not using the accessory bar on the OEM or the Madstad bracket currently. I think I have heard others say they still have vibration issues with the Madstad on Gen 2 bikes though. I can see that it would be basically the same problem as the OEM bracket. They mount pretty much the same way. They both mount using threaded rubber inserts. It think it is designed to move a little, but has unfortunate consequences.... I will try the Madstad bar though. The one main difference is the diameter of the bars. The Madstad is probably twice the diameter than the OEM bar. That may make a difference.

I made additional brackets (two pieces of aluminum 1/8 x 3/4 flat stock) to kill the vibes and shaking. Works amazingly well with over 12,000 miles in all sorts of stupid weather and road conditions.

I've fitted a Tourtech bracket for the screen to my 2013, I suppose it's really similar to the madstrad, if just a little different. I've also got a givi airflow screen, so have full adjustability. I've also got the Yamaha side wind deflectors fitted. Absolutely great that the air do go over my helmet so no buffering there. However, I'm getting lots of wind hitting my chin...even removed the mirrors and it's no different. Tried the screen in lots of positions. At the moment the screen is in the lowest position on the tourtech, so no air comes from below the screen.
Any suggestions to stop the wind on my chin?

Raise the screen, allow air to flow under the screen to eliminate negative pressure and see how that reduces air to your chin, if you look at Calsci screen you will see a 'cut out' in th elower part of the screen, this address's that issue, worth a shot?

Same setup as I have. Love it. It works as good as you describe.

Thanks everyone. I have ordered the side deflectors and will install those to see if that helps. I will report back.

I got the side deflectors and put them on this morning. They do make a difference especially for the buffeting on the body and shoulders. I am still getting too much on the top of the head though. I think I just need to play around with the Madstad settings to see if I can get it dialed in. I may throw the OEM shield back on with the Madstad bracket and see what that does as well.

For anyone that has a Madstad, do you have yours set in the high position or low? I have not played around with that much. I have basically tried in the high position but maybe that is what is creating the choppy air?

Thanks again to all for the help.

What surprised me when I installed the madstad bracket was that it works best for me ( with the Givi airflow ) works best in the most vertical position. Its almost at its vertical limit.

Did you try the Madstad bracket with OEM? If so, I am guessing the Givi worked better? Also, how tall are you? Because I am 6ft tall with a 32" inseam. (AKA: silverback)

So, after trying out the Madstad 20" windshield on the Madstad bracket, I just can't seem to find the sweet spot I am looking for. I called them up and I am going to swap it out for the 22". I am hoping this will solve my problem. I just hope I have another good riding day once it comes in to try it out before winter!!! :(
