and though I started this thread on my dirt bike fantasy of my youth to be fulfilled in my golden years . I enjoy others sharing their dirt bike pictures and stories , makes it a better thread . my confidence in riding off road has improved as I get to know my new to me Beta 300 RR-Race , just love saying that , it is so much easier to ride than the stall queen honda CRF 450 X . as my confidence grows so does my learning curve . and I'm actually wanting to ride the beta . now eventually I will drop or crash the Beta , but it will be my doing not the 4 stroke flame out when I least expect it . I can learn from my mistakes cant anticipate the flame out ..... now the honda is a great bike , lots of power and very fast . and toward the end of owner ship I had learned how to adjust the carb depending on weather where the bike did not stall as much . most of my riding that I enjoy is the tight trails and its a first gear kind of ride (stall or flame out will happen at some point ) , in more open ride the bike was great . the 2nd negative on the honda was engine heat . when brand new I put a fan kit on it , fan would get a work out but never had a boil over . the beta has a fan and its never turned on yet (warmer weather may change that )it just seems to run cooler than a 4 stroke . I can lay my hand on the radiators at almost anytime and its not going to burn me , the honda you better not linger the finger to long .
this morning there is rain here , I may be rained out on my job , so its a honey do Thursday for the wife so I can play this weekend . cant wait to ride the Beta.

Saturday is ride the Tenere to the dealer to get the recall work done then a ride some where from there . rode the Tenere yesterday ,felt a bit rusty on it .
bought a new helmet for the street had a scorpion adv helmet 950 something , a good helmet at 4 years old . so thought time to upgrade . Shoie Neotech , or Schubert C3 , and on the shelf for about the same money as a C3 is a Simpson mod bandit . not in my size so could not try on . Simpson has a factory store in new braunsfel Texas done the street so I went there . tried it on liked it ,paid my 500.00 dollars plus tax title and license (felt like it anyway ) and now a short review.
in the store v. on the bike . in the store very lite and very comfortable , on the bike the same . the eye port in the face mask is so large its almost like wearing a 3/4 open face helmet . added an amber drop down shield as I rarely use the dark tinted , and in some fog on my ride yesterday (had to test helmet )the amber is amazing . the noise level doesn't seem any worse than the scorpion (but I can hear everything around me , drop a pin I think I can hear it ) as far as air flow it chin vents great top of helmet ok . it flows a lot of air compared to the scorpion ( Schubert c3 ha s two very small vents and my neighbor said its a quiet helmet but hot . Texas is where I live so cool is better . my un official weighing of helmets says the scorpion weighs 4.2 lbs the Simpson 3,5 lbs .
more to come on the new hat as I learn .

what's the best time of the year to tour Death Valley ? its on my list .
It sounds crazy but to get the full experience there is nothing like Death Valley in the summertime. At the Devils Golf Course the salt formations crackle and snap from the heat expansion. The Artists Pallet drive is a wonder of the world in summer as the colors of the mountainside are vivid and pop out and almost seem to move with the heat. The issue is of course the heat. It is close to 130 degrees in the day and never gets below 100 degrees even at night.

I could go on but you get the idea. I have went once in the summer and burned up the transmission and killed the AC in my truck. This was back in about 1995 or so. And it's actually a popular time of the year for European folks to visit. Go figure.

The funnest time to go on a motorcycle is around late November to early December. It's not so crowded and the weather is cool but mild. The most popular time is February and March. But it's very crowded. All the popular trails are dry and dusty with dozens of ADV bikes at any given time. I personally like to enjoy the pavement on the big bikes and just have a dual sport for the serious off road sections.

The sand and off road trail conditions can be brutal. You can ride for over 75 miles on a smooth fire road and come across stuff that is virtually impassable without serious riding skills.

We all road to Borrego Springs, and Palm Springs in the "winter" of '85. It was hot! A friend had a Kawi 454LTD; water cooled. Driving around Palm Springs, it was in the red continuously. We were so thirsty (dehydrated) by the time we got back to San Diego.

It's a shame that so many idiots live in California. Some of the best roads anywhere.

I was going to say early to mid spring or mid to late fall. (Basically this weekend would have been perfect!) Wind can be an issue this time of year, given the much larger swing between the daytime highs and nighttime lows, but for comfortable temperatures, this is a much better time. Of course, as Chris mentioned, because Death Valley is known as one of the hottest places on earth, there are those who visit at peak temps for the experience...

Waiting on Fed Ex to deliver some upgraded parts from TokyoMods. Supposed to be delivered yesterday, now pending.
What ya' getten'? They are local to me. I had them do some carb mods and adjustable leak jet to my bike and a cylinder hone for my 300. It's a great shop.

Funny you mention that. The time I went there in the summer, after visiting, I drove right to my parents house in Boulder City. It was not much better as far as temperatures go!! LOL!! At least I had the lake to cool off in.

A 2017 gas gas being loaded up on carrots trailer. His nephew decided that he wanted to play with us . Seems like a solid bike. But it’s going to need a little attention to details. Fresh top end on it , lektron carb . Needs to be resprung to nephews weight maybe new plastic to give it a fresh new look .

After rereading my post ... it has a fresh top end and it has a lectron carb , those are the positive things. New plastic will dress it up needs to be resprung for his weight. It seems to run really well .
