Hey folks...I've been drooling over the S10 for a while now and may break down and get one this week. My current stable includes an 09 ZX14 and an 11 GSXR 1k. I had a KLR and it just wasn't up to the task of highway duty between the dirt. I think the S10 will be a better jack of all trades albeit a more expensive one.

I'm cross-shopping a 13 white vs 12 blue. I like both but I have to say that the white is stunning and my best deal so far is @ $700 more for the white. ($14.1 vs $14.8 OTD). I've read about better pricing elsewhere but this seems pretty competitive in southern Florida. I'm leaning towards the white so we'll see. Either will equally aggravate the wife >:D

I know there is no difference between the years and the only "issue" I've read about is some rare instances of excessive vibration. I've not been able to discern if this is an actual issue or a few owner's unrealistic expectation of the bike. My thought is that getting a 2013 is yet another year of potential refinement.

I have just over 200 miles on my 13 white S10. My experience is that this is a very smooth bike. Most of my experience with with thumpers and HD, so my guess is that "excess vibration" is subject to a riders personal experience.

Jason-

you are now roughly where I was maybe 5-6 months ago. You had trolled the web and figured out that the S10 might very well be the best compromise out there. I have a KLR and feel, like you, that the S10 will be a better road bike. If I can get to where the S10 can perform almost as well on dirt, then the KLR will likely be sold off.

As far as year is concerned... I see no issue. Someone might correct me but there is really no difference. the color issue is personal, of course. I am not sure how amenable you are to a fly-n-ride, but there are good used S10's out there - not many albeit. I was on the hunt and was bummed that all the used S10's were a 2-3 day ride from me. I got a great quote for around $13400 for a new one from Romney Cycles (http://www.romneycycles.com/) and was thinking that I'd pull the trigger come spring. However, in December a raven 2012 (my preferred color) popped up used 4 hours away and I bought it with farkles for substantially less. Have you looked at this one in Merritt Island, FL? It's blue but it is barely broken in, farkled out, and only $11k asking.

They're 30% cheaper than in the UK so enjoy  (over $19,000 dollars here, but you can get about $1,000 dollars off a new one and over $2,000 dollars of a low mileage 6 month old ex-demo)

Your new price is about the same as a two year old S10 costs over here, I do find the up / down pricing of Yamaha's around the globe quite odd, we seem to be the only place where a BMW GS is cheaper, OK by the time you add on TC / ABS the price is about the same, but in most places the BMW costs far more.

White rocks IMO, especially with a WC sticker kit (or full WC kit if you have the cash) and I reckon the bike is pretty smooth for a twin, much smoother than my 2008 GS, and still better than the twin cam GS of 2012. Anyone coming from a four cyclinder will find it a bit vibey.

Never done much off-road on any bike, but those that do take the Tenere away from tarmac seem quite impressed

Thanks for the feedback. I'm very appreciative of the cost savings versus outside the USDM. This bike would be a long term keeper and I'd like to break it in from new so I haven't really been searching to used market. I've sent out a few more dealer inquiries so hopefully I'll have an s10 to join the stable by the end of the week.

Welcome from Oklahoma! I know several gentlemen (I use that term very loosely) who have picked up their new (or used) S10's and sold their street bikes. you will be totally surprised at what the Tenere is capable of on both road and street.
That is now my only bike and I love every minute I get to ride on it. I haven't had any major issues or really minor ones. Pull the trigger and just do it! If you wait, you might miss out on a great winter deal.

I have a KLR as well....I agree its not meant for the highway but its just so darn fun on the back country dirt roads and cheap to run and maintain I can't sell it. The KLR is like that mangy mutt you can't help but love.

I Just bought an S10 a few weeks ago and haven't been able to ride it until the arctic conditions subside in a few months....I doubt the KLR will see much use this season.

welcome.
You will not go wrong with the bike. 1.5 years on mine, and loving it.
Might want to keep the gsxr1000 for a shit and giggles bike.
I have a 98 900rr, and a 01 VFR for the giggles. Mind you, good pipe, clutch mod, traction control off.....maybe I could downsize :D

Welcome from Atlanta, GA

You are were I was a couple of weeks ago. Since I had not had a "brand new" motorcycle since childhood, I decided to go with the white '13. Picked it up this past Saturday evening and the first level of break in should be completed this coming weekend. Coming from a BMW K1200s the ride is very different but I can already tell, I'm going to really like the S10.

Hit me up if you are in N GA.

Clint

I had a ZX14R (ZZR1400 in the UK) and found it no better for vibes, even after a full ECU remap (each gear and cylinder individually mapped) which smoothed it out further. It felt smoother than the Tenere, but the combination of high frequency vibes and the weight on wrists riding position gave me numb hands as fast as the Tenere.

I find a cruise control (cheapo go-cruise thingy) works well, as long as I can take either hand of the bars for a rest now and again I have no problems, and I do not find it in any way intrusive as I am riding, just when doing long stints (like setting off on tour) the numbness will kick in after an hour on most bikes, with the cruise jobbie I can run the tank dry.

what will help with the vibes is
flexx bars.
Personally i'm way too cheap to spring for a set, so I went with rox risers (1.75",renthal bar, and those old school bmw grips with the deep groves)
job done

We can McGyver a vibe-free ride with your existing Rox, Dude!! Me, I'm getting the Fasst 15" bars.
not really needed, the biggest complaint was that odd placemnent of the stock bars.
the renthals should fix that

I don't have much vibes on my S10, all bikes have some vibes, honda v4's are about as vibe free as you'll find. Bottom line is, for my money the S10 is about the best do-all bike out there. As far as price, wait much longer and spring will be upon us and that price might go up and stay up for the summer. Get your best deal, and don't look back! Send pics!! ::006::
