Loud brief knock sound from engine

I get a loud knock when I first get on the gas hard after shifting into a gear. The knock sounds as if it is coming from the valves. The bike is a 2013 I bought new in May. I have put about 7,500 miles on her since May. I hear the same knock either in neutral or when the clutch is engaged and I give the engine a short sharp rev.
Any thoughts on this? Is this normal or am I in need of a valve adjustment or throttle body sync or something else? Riding normal with mild throttle input this doesn't happen just when I get on the throttle hard.

If it is still under warranty take it to a Yamaha Service Department.

If you are rolling on it anywhere under 3500 rpms, mine does the same thing. Others have said it is normal and the big twin doesn't like to be lugged. I bought the 5 year warranty so if it blows up, well new engine time.

Mine too. I usually wear ear plugs, but it's surprisingly loud without. I've thought that it was related to the clutch basket noise but maybe not. I do notice that it doesn't seem to be a lugging thing as what happens for me is that I can roll on a good amount of throttle at lower rpms (say in 4th gear 2500) and the bike will accelerate without protest and then right around 3500 make the noise. I've given up caring about it after 28000 miles.
