Perhaps it's the 100+ degree weather we've been having or just the design of the bike but I noticed Saturday at our little BBQ get together in TX that every bike was vending some fluid from the 2 front hoses - gas vapors I assume.

The two up front, they're connected to the gas tank and come out on the left side of the bike, these are the two you pull out of the little clamp if you need to lift the tank.

I noticed a couple of drops when just below those hoses when I (dare I say it) trailered my Tenere home. I figured it was the fuel sloshing around in the tank that made it out the hoses. Still, that shouldn't have happened that easily. Typically there's a few bends on the inside of the tank on the vent line to prevent this.

I haven't noticed any since though.

I have noticed a few drops of anti-freeze drip out of mine but I expected that since the expansion tank was/is 1/2" overfilled since I picked up the bike.

Yep on mine too... thougth it was probably a venting hose to the blow by from the motor.. Probably nothing to worry about and probably has more to do with the bike being new than the 100+ out side...

Your talking about the fuel tank overflow tubes, right? If so, I would guess that the venting means that they are doing their job correctly (?) Would be fun to overfill the tank and leave the bike outside of Barnes and Noble in a 110F parking lot and see what comes out of them. Not recommending that you do that!

Yes it's the 2 tank vents.. I smelled and tasted it, didn't appear to be gas but that's cool.. all is good.. I do have a slight twitch now but I'm sure that will go away.

Mine was venting when i first picked it up. Had been sitting in the sun for a couple hours with a freshly toped off tank. I had visions of harley-ness when I walked up and saw a puddle underneath it.

Mine is doing that as well now that I brought the bike down to the 110F heat of the desert. The bike inside my shop, but it is still over 95F during the day.

It is definitely gas that is dripping, but mine is only dripping out of one of the hoses. It has done it for the past 2 days, so tonight I have left the gas cap popped open slightly and will see if the dripping stops.

I am assuming you do not have a California bike? If so, this fuel drip is first filling up your charcoal cannister. This could create an issue with the tank not being able to vent properly if you fill the cannister up with fuel. Hard start and stalling will manifest with a really full one.

I used to be in the habit of always topping off at the end of a ride. I now top off as I leave on one to prevent this possibility.

Of course, this is only relevant to us California bikes with cannisters.

I'm actually surprised that the 49 state bikes don't have a charcoal canister. I thought that all vehicles needed to meet some sort of evaporative control system spec. Of course my bmw had one once, then it was removed because it did get plugged from raw fuel contamination. Ran like crap too, engine sucking in the gas fumes from the canister, the O2 sensor didn't know what to feed the engine.

The last couple of bikes that I have bought (all California models) had charcoal canisters, where the 49 state version did not. Luckily the manufactures made the attachment points so poorly that the cannisters would somehow fall off ::)

The CA version of the DL1000 would run poorly for approx 25 miles when it was topped off. CA KLRs had a similar problem.

Guessing if we use the inner tank thingy we will never over fill the fuel tank.

Just came back from a long weekend trip (600+ miles) in the Sierra's (in & around Mammoth Mtn) and the bike still dribbles when parked, I noticed that even in fairly mild temps (70-80F or so) that even with almost 2 gallons used (4 or so remaining), the bike will dribble if left on the side stand or center stand (takes about 20-30 minutes). If there is less fuel in the tank then no dribble.

The bike is now parked at home (100F) and I have used about 2.5 gallons so I will see if there is any dribbling....

Mine is only dribbling out of one of the hoses, I don't know which one (I suspect the vent line, not the overflow) but will find out when I lift the tank. In thinking about this, if there is no obvious problem I will probably end up installing a small fuel filter in line to trap the small amount of liquid fuel and allow it to gas off. The fuel filter cannot be the normal in-line type, since this would just allow the fuel to flow right thru, but will have to be one that has the inlet/outlet nipples at the same end.

Doing a quick on-line check, something like this would probably work:

P.S. Mine is a 49 state bike ;D
