Need to check with others on this to see if this is a Super Tenere normal deal.... I had my bike on the center stand. I pushed down on the rear rack and was rocking the bike back and forth while it was on the center stand. I noticed that when the rear tire touched the ground it felt like something was slightly loose. While it was still on the center stand I reached down around the pillion seat with both hands and pulled up on the rear wheel. I can pick it up and lower it slightly.. So there is some play.... If you guys go out to your bike, does your bike have this same play in the rear swing arm / wheel ? I cant measure it while im 'bear hugging' the rear seat picking up the wheel. But a good guess is that its lifting about 3/32" or so... Let me know please... Thanks

I haven't checked yet, but my 18 year old says he hasn't seen one bike without a little bit of play in those links, they seem to exaggerate the smallest amount of play. I am interested in hearing others who have checked. 8)

There is a micky whisker clearance in the holes for the link bolts. bolts are tight in the links but move within the swingarm holes.

Greg.
Now, how am I going to measure a "micky whisker"????

;D :) ;) ;D

Yep, ever so slight movement in mine as well. I have it vertically but nothing in the horizontal. Cumulative total of tolerance through linkages, etc. combine to gave that little bit at the end. Pretty normal feeling to me compared to other bikes I've had.

After everyone reported the same I checked again and there is no movement with mine. Just curious if you are running different links (such as raising) than stock? And could it be a torque value problem with the linkage bolts?

Mine is tight with no obvious play but only 1200 miles on the clock. Might loosen up with miles?

Noticed mine at around 3000kms (in standard form) when I put a lever under the back tire (bike on stand) to start pulling rear apart to establish link design.
I hazard a guess that they all have this movement, just some folks arent lifting enough... remember the rear wheel assly is very heavy.

I just went out and checked mine. I found the easiest way to check is to kneel down behind the bike and use a pry bar under the rear wheel to "lift". I was able to both feel and see slight movement up-down. Perhaps 3/32" or so......

Thanks to everyone that has gone out and checked there bike............. ::008::

Looks like this slight 'play' is normal... Going to go back and re torque the dog bone bolts just to double check....

Very little if any on mine at the links. That's looking at the link bolts in relation to link joints/mounts while lifting the tire up and down with a bar.

It shouldnt be the link bolts Jaxon.
The link plates are held apart (and clamped firmly to) the spacer bush's that run on the bearings in the large cast rising rate arm, therefore the bolts dont actually pivot.
In fact all the pivoting points in the rear suspension have hardened bush's that run on needle roller bearings.
I think we would find that the movement is a accumulation of clearances in the combined linkage points.

Greg.

For sure. It's the diffrence in the OD / ID of the bearings. After messing with links just want to double check TQ values.
