Hi guys, I am a 74 year old man in good health and am looking at a 2013 ST with 18000+ miles on it. It has aftermarket windshield, wind deflectors, two ball mounts, aftermarket seat and I don't know what else. I am currently riding a 2014 Victory Vision. The 900 pound weight is becoming a little much for me. The dealer wants $8300.00 which is high retail. I think I could come close to an even trade. Georgia has a TAVT tax which would be about 6.4% of the net sale price and the dealer has several charges that they add. Two questions : 1. Is this a good deal? 2. What should I look for on the ST? Thanks! I should mention I have a 30 inch inseam and two artificial hips so seat heigh may be a problem...

The Super Tenere is a pretty bullet-proof bike, so buy with confidence but but on overall condition and and a warranted service history and you will not go far wrong. Once bought, get on it and ride and enjoy!

If possible I recommend taking a test ride, the price sounds acceptable but I suspect the Tenere might be to tall and top heavy.

I don't see the artificial hips being a problem but the 30" inseam at 74 of age maybe. The seat can be lowered and so can the bike with a lowering kit.
Even though the S10 has a good CG it is a tall bike and for some people if they don't have a good flat foot on the ground could end up dropping the bike. It actually doesn't take much of an upset to drop it at a stop or light. She is heavy. I'm 6ft and 230lbs in good physical form and if I'm relaxed and come to a stop not paying attention and the bike leans too much one way I need to be quick to recover it or down she goes, its that heavy.
The actual weight of the bike is amplified when its taller even with a good CG, remember the S10 has a good CG for an ADV motorcycle not compared to a cruiser.
I would recommend trying one first before purchasing, you may be surprise at your 2014 Victory.

As suggested above, get a decent test ride and perhaps do some of the everyday stuff, like paddling it about out of a parking space, in and out of a garage, slightly lower and off perfect footing. It’s a good all round bike, but heavy, more so with a full tank and then top heavy. At 74 with a 30 inch inseam, you might struggle.

Best of luck with whatever you decide.

I know motorcycle prices are going up just like everything else. I bought a new 2013 in 2015 for $10,000 with the Yamaha side cases, crash bars, skid plate and the 4 years of extended warranty. Depending on what that bike has for extras, $8300 sounds high. Your 30" inseam will be a problem, you can get lowering links, but the Super Tenere is still a big top heavy bike. You will have trouble in parking lots and moving the bike around the garage. Once you get moving, you don't notice the weight or the top heavy feel. Take it for a test ride and see how it feels. Also, be aware that the bike will be due for a valve check at 26,000 miles...expensive. I should mention that I'm soon to be 67 and 6'4" with a 35" inseam.

How’s the hight of the bike for you. Can you flat foot. These bikes sit considerable higher than vision. If the bike fits you and you are cool with a used one go for it.

I'll echo the test ride. She is taller, but almost 300 pounds lighter. The wheelbase is about 5" shorter and total length is about 20" shorter than the Vision.

I can't quite flat foot it. I'm more on the balls of my foot. Wearing boots would help a bit here but they are hot in the summer. I know I should wear proper footware anytime on a motorcycle but... Moving around while parking etc would be somewhat of a chore and if I ever parked nose in on an incline would probably need some help. The bike is well equipped. Has Givi screen, Givi crash bars, stock side packs, Yamaha wind deflectors, Givi skid plate and perhaps some other things. The dealer is being difficult. Basically won't give me anything for my Victory Vision tradein. All in all, I think I will look for a well equipped Vstrom 650. Its also pretty tall but I had one in the past and I am sure I can still handle it. Thank you all for your help. BTW, I can easily mount and dismount by stepping on the footrest.

Anybody looking for a good deal on a 2014 black Victory Vision with 28000+ miles? Located in Macon Georgia.

Well good luck in your search, the 650 Vstrom is a lovely motorcycle and one I would certainly consider if I parted with my S10, let us know how you get on, don’t be a stranger here. By the way, I’m 70 this year and I’m 6’2” and as I get older, I often mount and dismount by stepping up onto the footrest.

I'm in the process of pulling off lowering links and an adjustable side stand. If you end up needing to lower that bike, these parts are not particularly tough to install.
