The mass media has been doing a great job. Next they will have a headline that the apocalypse is here.

Bike is back from getting the forks rebuilt, and going for a ride. Might get sick from the fresh air though....

How about we return to the positive comments and sharing what's happening in our parts of the world? We don't need to spiral this thread into the political arena.

The radio DJ on XM, (who is in NY working from home), had some positive comments on this new reality. Saying that she's getting a little cabin fever herself, but there are really a lot of things people can still do that don't involve a crowd. After all, most of us don't spend a lot of time in crowds to begin with. The other day I went shopping at 8am on a week day at the local neighborhood Walmart. My wife likes their store brand diet tonic water and I searched online to find if they had any in stock. They did, so off I went right after they opened. 8 am for this store. Few people in the store, found what I was looking for, got some veggies while I was there and back home. No big deal, I didn't have close contact with anyone or need to be in any confined spaces. Only saw one woman wearing a mask, otherwise normal other than people using the disinfectant wipes on their shopping carts more than usual.

But back to things we can still do that we always did before. Take a walk, go for a ride, play games, go to the park, etc. Pretty much all outside activities are easy to do w/o packing ourselves into a crowd. Of course, the kids were all staying inside playing on their electronic devices before anyway, so school was their only crowded space. LOL. I may actually be seeing a few more playing outside now in our neighborhood.

I agree, this thread should not be about political commentary, but rather our personal daily experiences during this pandemic.

Now, does anyone have an FCR carb for a 2005 YFZ450 lying around? Or is anyone hiring?

WARNING -

Racial and one of the political posts are beyond reasonable and the pruning shears are now out. Posts also got deleted because they quoted an earlier one, not because of anything those posting had personally added. Nobody is going to bring others to their point of view in a forum like this.

Don't go there or the next stop may be a temporary trip to Banned Camp.

On a positive note regarding Mexico. I’ve probably been to Ensenada and beyond 20-25 times. Never any problems at all. Once we saw some Federales doing a road check on the Libre road, but they just waved us through.

Some reading that may give you a better perspective on what we are being told Vs what we'll likely learn later after this is all over. This is not inflammatory, but seems to be a very well presented case by someone that's doing the research.

That's a good article. Exponential growth is the issue. It's also something that is hard for folks to see and isn't something we generally experience over a short time horizon. We may see it if we make investments, but only if there's a good return and even then it's over the course of years. Mostly our lives are fairly linear in terms of ups and downs. Additionally, it's hard to picture exponential growth in our day to day when it starts out at a distance from us. The early stages appear minimal or just seem to be minor and maybe linear, especially when we don't have direct experience, which most people inherently do not at the start.

Some of this came home to me on Friday. My wife is an architect. Her firm did a small job for a daycare center that is in the small town where their office is located. Friday morning we learned that one of the daycare staff had picked up CV-19. Naturally, things were shut down at the daycare. Her office did a review of who had been last there and when. It was back in November, so probably OK. But the warning flag went up. And by afternoon in that small town, three members of a church congregation had tested positive.

That's exponential growth in action, at a small level. We'll see where things grow, but Wisconsin is largely shutting down anything with group gatherings. A bishop was nice enough to give the OK for people to not attend mass. That social distancing can help break an exponential cycle. We'll see where it all goes, but the curve is on an upward trajectory, regardless. Eventually the curve will bend and recede, but some caution is still warranted. I was reading that China, which had largely contained things and was on the decrease may be experiencing a second wave due to people travelling in to China.

Interesting times. No need for hysteria or panic, but group efforts to help stop the spread can make a difference for the most vulnerable and reduce the resulting burden.

Stay healthy and safe. I think I'm going for my first ride of 2020 today.

We have one grocery store here in my little town, and they are all out of bread, canned goods, TP and paper towels. The meat department is also pretty much wiped out, and they don't have any of the plastic bags for vegetables...

I've shopped at that Albertsons several times. Used to go to the Coffee Cup now and then, but the place down the street was better and less crowded. (Ed's, Jacks?, can't remember now.)

What’s the point in stockpiling toilet rolls and hand wash? Why don’t people stockpile the important things?

Like kebabs.

Went shopping at my usual local Tesco's yesterday and very very few shelves were empty, there was plenty of food etc. I guess these days everyone is used to getting what they want when they want it and it comes as a shock when they can't have it.

Had a good ride today for a few hours (on the Wee), roads seemed slightly quieter so a positive on that front.

Keep calm and carry on.
