Leo Vince owners - your experiences?

Sometime in the near future, I'd like to give my Tenere its proper "big twin" voice and pick up some midrange torque and hp while I'm at it. So far, I'm considering the Leo Vince, Akrapovic, and Staintune exhausts.

The Akra seems to be good for torque, but is terribly expensive and frankly sounds no better than stock, which is sad considering how many Akras are out there making delicious sounds on Ducatis and KTM's. So I haven't written Akra off, but it's not ideal.

I know Staintunes historically sound fantastic from my Ducati days, but they're expensive and we're still lacking for dyno charts and enough (read: any??) sound clips to get a feel for what to expect on the Tenere.

So at this point, I'm leaning towards the Leo Vince. It sounds fabulous without the baffle, not too bad with the baffle, is reasonably priced, and the dyno charts seem very close to Akrapovic's results.

However, I used to play the "repack the muffler" game and hate that, like many of you. Since the Leos seem to be fairly common, my question is how long are the repacks lasting for you in the real world before it appears that another is due?

Also, I heard some discussion that Leos without the baffle aren't turn-signal friendly. Is that true, and if so, short of putting the baffle back in, what has your solution been?

Feel free to add any other comments you feel are relevant to the experience of using the Leo Vince with the ST. :)

Thanks in advance. ::001::

If you like, I'll be happy to talk to you about differences between many of them. I've messed with most if not all of them. Just let me know.

I just put my Leo Vince pipe on today. It was very easy to install and it sounds great. A bit louder but not by much. The sound is deeper than stock. I am very pleased with the results. I bought it from Jaxon at RideOnADV. Great price and it got to my house really quick. You will not be disapointed, IMHO, if you go with the Leo Vince pipe.

No issue on the turn signal without the baffle. I did end up sticking it back in tho, without it it was warming up my license plate backer and causing it to curl.

I am going to try and seal up the slip jopint where the mid pipe inserts into the can, have not yet decide with what. Maybe high temp RTV.

I thnk it lets some air in there and makes the snapping and banging on decel a little worse.

Fit, weight, sound under power, all first rate.

I left the baffle in on mine. Nice growl on acceleration. I really like it.

I got the titanium Leo Vince pipe from Jaxon ("Tabasco"), who was great to work with over the phone. I wound up choosing the pipe for the combination of the nice exhaust note, the little additional power kick, and the fact that you can configure it in multiple ways (with/without baffle, with/without the little downspouty thingie that redirects the exhaust toward the ground) for different levels of noise control should you have different needs. I really like the thing. As I understand it, as long as you install the pipe properly, using the supplied spacer, there will be no issues with anything melting; I certainly haven't had any problems yet!

(I also got a pair of Jaxon's fork guards while I was at it; super easy to install, and a nice protective addition to keep those fork seals safe . . .)

Ride safe!

Thanks for the input Justbob - have you done any repacking or noticed the volume creeping up over the miles?

I know about the baffle, but what's the downspout?

The fork guards sound like a good idea - but too many farkles, not enough $$$ in my pocket :)

What is the weight savings of the LV or Akra vs stock?

A quick Google search found a response from the US Leo Vince rep stating that LV recommend repacking for the Super Tenere no sooner than 30k miles, so it seems to me that repacking should be a pretty rare occurrence. I've only got about 1000 miles on mine, so have a way to go, yet...

The stock can weighs 15 lbs and the LV carbon weighs 8 lbs . I don't have
the actual weight of the Akra but probably 11 / 12 lbs ?

I got my weights by standing on bathroom scales then adding parts . I
don't think I'm off that much but whatever .

Yeah, I used that method and my Akra weighed more than they said. I was in a state of arousal, though, so that probably made up the difference. ;D
