Done. If you have never lane split before I can understand why you might not ... but once you have you will always want the ability to do so legally. So sign it for the rest of us.

I learned in LA in traffic at night ... now that was exhilarating to say the least. :))

Noteworthy is that lane splitting is not legal in California, however, there's no vehicle code that prohibits it.
Some officers will cite lane splitters for things such as "unsafe speed," or "unsafe lane change," which are kind of catch alls.

The federal government does not dictate state traffic laws.
Yes they do, for example it's Federal Law that allows motorcycles to ride in HOV lanes in all 50 states.

I'm actually against it. Too many effin knuckleheads in boxes to get pissed off and open doors on upcoming bikes. It works in Europe, but I don't think it will work here.

I think it will, but it will take education...plus all the California ex-pats should help!

I would be happy to just be allowed to use the breakdown lane to move to the front of traffic in a stand still. Safer than moving between cars. 4 points on your license here if caught riding the breakdown lane.

I don't really care if they can lane split in Whitehorse. Let Rem wait in line, like the rest of us.

Oh, wait, it says Whitehouse....................not Whitehorse!

Nevermind................................ ;)

That would probably get classed as assault. Or attempted man-slaughter over here.

Re: Lane splitting petition.

I would just like to add my personal view, as lived and living in countries that allow lane splitting or filtering I see way too many riders maintain their highway speed when the traffic is at near standstill, stupid! I do filter when it has stopped but at a reasonable speed, I'm already ahead of the game simply by moving, right?
Then of course, these countries also are used to bikes doing this (although sometimes I do wonder ::010::). You would have to re-educate a whole group of cagers to be aware of this new law, in a country that these same drivers can barely able to do competently in the first place, what with the busy lives they have and the need to facetime, facebook and text while doing that pesky thing called driving.
All I'll say is be careful what you wish for.
