Hi all, Lower Alabama rider, lifelong ADV fan. And looking to purchase my first Super Tenere. I’ve been researching, shopping and price comparison checking. And I’m noticing some big price swings on these things.

Welcome, from Texas. The Tenere is the best bang for the buck . . . . by far. Gen 1s ('10-'13) are all the same and the least expensive. Gen 2 ('14-'18) give you the choice of ES and non-ES. They all have cruise control, but the ES has the addition of heated grips and electronic suspension. And after '19 they're all ES. I prefer the ES, which is why I have a '17 ES. The price swings are likely due to the equipment level on each bike. Hard luggage can get expensive. As can crashbars and skid plates. So, if you have two similar bikes, with huge price differences . . . . that could be why.

Comparing her to Beemer, KTM, and Triumph, she's way behind on tech, but so is her price tag. Good luck.

Ps. Explain your stage name. call it crazy for 747?

Im a pilot on the 747-400 for Kalitta Air. And kinda crazy for it. Thanks for the info, I’m looking at gen 2’s like you said, for the subtle upgrades and the price is a lot more bang for the buck. I was fortunate enough to ride a friends 2013 gen 1 for about 100 miles the other day. And realized how tall these are. I’m 5’10”, so a short legged guy. And will need to lower it. The fluctuation I’m seeing are really with dealership offered bikes. I’m looking at a 2015 non-ES, with all 3 Yamaha panniers, crash bars and little over 34k miles. Asking $10,800 befor tax, tag, title, etc. seems a bit steep? I’m looking through the ones on here and there are some very nicely equipped ones for sale.
I know these things are bulletproof. Is there any tale tell signs I should look for on the drive shaft, main seals, fork seals, etc?

It's not a Beemer, so the drive shaft will be fine. Forks seals are fork seals. They are wear items but are not any worse than any other bike. Gen 2s, for the most part, are more "refined" than the Gen 1s.

Don't be too sure that you'll have to lower it. I have a 31" inseam and have no issues. The more preload that you have dialed in, the taller she's gonna sit. Substantially so.

Had mine -20 for 3 years (Triumph befoer that) and superhappy!
No issues, not best on anything but very good att everything.
Give her oil, filter, tires and she will be like a dog to you.
