Welcome back! Does the 1290 ride as big as it looks? I've ridden the 1190 and really liked it but the 1290 looks HUGE.
That was my impression too. The 1190 Adventure fit my 5'7" frame very well but the Super Adv was ginormous. No worries for big guys though and it certainly has a lot of nice bells and whistles.

Welcome back! I hope the big SA fits your needs. The 18/21 might give up some stability on the road, but should prove it's worth off pavement. I can help you out with crash protection when you are interested. ;)
You must be thinking of the Adventure R. The Super Adventure has 17/19 wheels.

Having recently visited the UK Motorcycle show at the NEC in Birmingham I noticed that the KTM1290 was the only bike that you just couldn't get near. There were always at least 4 or 5 people waiting to have a sit on it, no other bike at the show was like that. Very popular, enjoy ::008::
the Super Duke GT looks like it could be a good bike too, I had a 990 ADV and came very close to an SMT, which was an under rated do it all machine - it was just a bit small for me in the frame set up

I think if KTM and maybe Ducati realised we don't all need super powerful, super light bikes they would do even better, any of the 1290's with a shaft and a low c of g would probably get my wonga

Yep, agreed if they did a shaftie they would sell shed loads. I really can't see me going back to a chain (for my main bike anyway).

What would the attraction be then? Were it not for that, and bit of exclusivity because of their origin, why would anyone want one?
ANY Japanese brand has all the bases covered with just about anything else any other manufacturer makes with better pricing and superior dependability. Is having a V-twin THAT important to some?

New stuff going on. Top Box, radiator grill and skid plate. All KTM stuff.

Just did the 600 mile break-in service. Finally got to open this bad boy up a little. It's a beast. Very refined but seemingly unlimited power. Traction control light is getting a workout.

I'm trying to get used to the hand controls. Seems a little weird the way they laid everything out. The horn is nearly impossible to find with gloves on. But all in all this bike is fantastic. Handles great. Comfortable enough to ride all day. Did I mention amazing power?

Looking forward to getting this onto some dirt roads.

Last night I was leaving a vintage bike night at a British pub. With one pint in my tank I decided to display the power of my new KTM to the 03 Softtail next to me at the red light. With my wife riding along I performed my first "Two up / Unintentional Wheelie". Pretty exciting. And it looked anything but graceful.

And the next sounds you heard were BANG BANG in the helmet.

The first was her helmet hitting yours.

The second and harder one was her palm whacking your helmet.

KTM 1290 Super Adventure.

I finally got this thing onto a gravel road. It was slow going with my wife on the back. I loaded up the suspension for two up, off-road and off-road mapping. It was a handful but I was smiles the whole time.

This is not a two up touring bike. The wife and I took our first over nighter. It was a little cramped but we got everything we needed packed. Putting the load preset on two with bags and stiffening the suspension, the bike still floated around. My Tenere was much more stable loaded up.

I haven't been following KTM too closely...I know there has been one that has had a lot of issue - is it this or the 990? I did sit on this one at a local dealer and really liked the ergos.

I think the 1290 has a pretty good reputation so far. I like the ergo's too. After this past weekend though, I'm thinking it's not ready for the weight I'm going to be throwing at it. Little concerning.

You may be thinking of the airbox issues with the 1190. Lots of complaints till owners came up with solutions.

Man that KTM is a great bike she is faaaast and handles great . I cant understand how they got that vtwin so smooth. If money wasnt an issue i would have a Super Adventure tomorrow !! That bike had the best stock motor ,suspension and brakes ive ever tried .
