After being away for 14 months, without my beloved Tenere I really felt the urge to get back into the adventure riding world. My fix for this craving was the KTM 1290 Super Adventure. I picked it up the Wednesday before Christmas. With the recent cold weather and a full schedule, I've only been able to manage 135 miles. I haven't even been able to open it up yet as I'm still in the break in period. Early feed back confirms, this thing is a beast.

I've kind of scanned some of the recent posts on this forum and it seems there are a lot of new members on line. I guess that's a good thing but I hope to catch up on what's happening with my old friends and all their drama.

Thanks to Don in Lodi for saying hello and spurring the idea of checking back in.

Welcome back! Did you buy that to keep in front of Luke? :D

Hope you've been doing alright. Lots of new folks but some old ones too still around. No drama in my world hope it stays that way!

Hopefully you'll get a simple hello from Barkinglizard. He's still around and going strong already on his second Tenere. So is Dirt Dad and Sailxxs. Eemsreno's racking up the miles on his and DC is still on the move in Europe I think. Fredz and William42 are are their second Teneres too. AVGeek is now a moderator and so is Checkwrecks. Rem is retired but still blesses us. Still is a good place to hang out and we don't really care what you ride. No really ;)

Keep in front of TwoLukes???? Obviously you've never ridden with him lol. That guy is crazy. I thought he was going to kill me coming back from Ouray. Good times.

Good to be an adventure rider again. Even if I've still got street tires on this beast. I guess I'll be calling Tabasco for tires soon enough.

Haven't seen TwoLukes here in a while hope he's okay! I think the talk for the rally this year is Utah. Not sure I'll get to make it but it will be close for you.

Welcome back! Once you've been bitten by the adventure bug, it's hard to stay away...

We will be expecting detailed comparisons between the two bikes, as well as a complete list of the performance awards you garner with that rocket!

For sure. I'm glad to see you're still kicking. Once I get this thing set up we need to hit the dirt again. Maybe the big event in Utah?

Good to see you here again. I was afraid marriage made you all responsible and stuff so you had to give up riding in the dirt. The 1290 Super Adventure does seem like everything you could want in a big ADV bike, so I'm sure you'll enjoy it. If you talk your missus into riding with you, me and Mrs. Boondocker would be happy to ride with you again.

Cheers,
Neil

Neil, great to hear from you. You don't know how close I came to terminal responsibility. Gina had a moment of weakness...... And we'll here I am with a new bike. Life is good.

I look forward to riding with you soon.

Welcome back! Does the 1290 ride as big as it looks? I've ridden the 1190 and really liked it but the 1290 looks HUGE.

KTM 1290 Super Adventure.

Bug....Roger that. I've already figured rear tires into the budget. Lol

Donk.......Good To be back! Keep in mind I've got 150 miles, street only, quarter throttle max. Break-ins are a pain. So far, it feels very nimble. I'm thinking it will be just fine in the dirt.

One concern I have is the fat rear...... Not just because how fast I'm going to wear them out, but how will that affect the ride in the dirt????? We shall see.

If you meet joneil in person, you'll understand why he is not intimidated by big bikes.

Having recently visited the UK Motorcycle show at the NEC in Birmingham I noticed that the KTM1290 was the only bike that you just couldn't get near. There were always at least 4 or 5 people waiting to have a sit on it, no other bike at the show was like that. Very popular, enjoy ::008::

I'm hoping to make it to Utah for the rally, it depends on how much work I'm booking, especially then as September is typically pretty busy.

No doubt. 10 times the dealers, half the price , three times the off road capability and it's a Honda.

Welcome back! I hope the big SA fits your needs. The 18/21 might give up some stability on the road, but should prove it's worth off pavement. I can help you out with crash protection when you are interested. ;)
