knocking noise over 4000 rpm ?????

i have a 2012 ST with a 550 miles on it. I have a knocking noise over 4000 rpm but nothing under that. Is that normal for this byke???? The noise is like a rod pin gose bad on a car engin.

hi Chris,

no mine hase a higher pinch noise and only over 4k. Dose it all the time. I do not have to drive it.

OK guys,

I will cry myself out.
I love dual sport bikes. I am from Europe and had some of the dual sport bike all ready. Yamaha ST is my first new bike. I never had any problem with my other bikes only maintenance. But.....
This one is really scars me.... so I had 500+ in the bike . 600 service coming up. I was very carefully with the ST for the first 400 miles. Never go over 3000 rpm and 55mph. but after I want to know what can I do with it. Not getting crazy but do some more. Well...... I have a knocking noise and I can not get the bike go over 6000 rpm in 4,5 and 6 gear. just not going over...... . power is not there!!!!!!! Over 3000 rpm it has so much vibration my vision go bluer and I could not read no traffic sins. I do not know what to do. If this is the normal for this bike , I need to go back to BMW. I will put it on sale for a dollar. I am so disappointed.........

Can any of you guys who living close to Colorado Springs in Colorado to get together with me for a test drive. I would like to test drive another St for comparison. And can you guys recommend me a good Yamaha tech here in Col. Springs..

Amos, don't wait for a test ride. Take it to the dealer right away. I'm not a mechanic so won't try to diagnose but can say that there is a problem. The issues you are describing are not normal. I've been active on the forum for 9 months and this is the first I've heard of anything like what you describe.
Whatever it is let the dealer sort it out while you're still under warranty.
