A friend of mine was a willing participant on this little experiment.. This is ONLY to show how deep and how long a tire might last. Don't do this at home. We installed a rear tire that was at the wear bars. This would be the 'normal responsible' time to replace a rear tire. After we installed this tire, he then road this tire another 3000 miles until it was truly not safe to be on the road and his life didn't depend on continuing staying on this tire.. So time for another..... but before that, I took the bike out in front of the shop and did a two minute burn out on the same tire to see how much more rubber was left on the tire... Holy cow, this tire still had a TON of rubber left... Not that I would recommend riding a tire to the cords for all kinds of safety reasons, if someone absolutely had to, this tire can keep on trucking for a very long time.. I don't need to say this, but don't try this at home, and don't ride the tire past the normal wear bars. Don't be dumb...
Here is the tire right after the two minute long burn out. You can just begin to see the carcass of the tire. You can also see the profile of rubber that had to come off to get down to this level. Its really nuts this tire has so much rubber on way-way-way past the wear bars. This tire is a beast. These pictures are reference photos only, for education only. Do not ride a tire to this point, EVER!
There was probably more than a cup of rubber out in the parking lot and stuck to the bike. Tons of rubber... This tire has approximately 16.5 + thousands miles of street dirt use, and a 2 minute burn out on it.. Thought you might like to see and hear about our little experiment....

That was nuts. It's gonna take me an afternoon to pick all the little blobs of rubbery goo from the inside of my wheel well. Left a nice smiley face in front of his shop. Check out all the little rubber bits sprayed all over the concrete.

I just killed one in about 12k miles. Still had several thousand left in it but it was poked full of too many holes. Plugs quit holding air and no one would pull it and patch it.

My front will easily go till past 20k miles.

Good to know Jaxon! I usually go about 12,000 miles on mine, heading into places where I'm not sure of availability (actually pretty sure availability is going to = NOT), so might be happy to get a few thousand extra miles if I really have to...

I ran a set of K60s, hit 6,000 miles before I couldn't stand the crappy handling from them squaring off. My Anakee 3 rear went 12,500 miles before it reached the wear indicators in the center and handled good till the end. Front lasted about 8750 miles.

I got over 16k on a rear K60, nearly 24k on a front.

What you are telling me is I won't have to buy new tires every spring like I have been doing...sometimes a rear mid season. What will I do with the extra cash.... ::008::
