If you ride into water deep enough to go over the silver breather cap on your shaft drive housing, you will turn the diff oil milky right away. Had just changed the diff fluid last week and rode into flood waters about 11/2 ft deep(Over top of the shaft Drive) and thought, maybe I'll just check it today. Sure enough it was milky after about 30 seconds under water. So easy to change. ::001::

It would be just like a 4x4 dif if there are no breathers high up it is unwise to drive a hot dif into cold water as it will suck water in, it should not if the dif is allowed to cool before going in, The dif seal is designed primarily to keep the stuff inside in rather than the opposite,
I think

Good to know, I will make a few water crossings next week at about the height of the rear diff breather.

I guess I got lucky, I went in water deep enough to get in the airbox and the engine but my driveshaft stayed water free. Took 6 oil changes to get the engine oil looking normal again...
