I think generally speaking, it is safe to say there are more non ES S10s since we are now only entering the 3rd year of the ES, but the non ES models have been being produced and sold for twice as long.
What would be interesting to know, out of curiosity and for future projections, is for the 2014-2016 model years, what percentages of S10s sold were ESvs non ES. I would be surprised if Yamaha didn't have that sale data captured somewhere. The fact that Yamaha continues to offer non ES versions on both the S10, and not into the fourth year of the FJR, tells me that market demand of the non ES models is high enough to maintain two versions (at least 45-65% sales split from one model to the other?).

Old thread but chiming in anyway, new 2015 non ES. Wish for the heated grips though! Think the idea is good, just found a good deal on a non ES and didn't want to spend another grand on ES. Like tweaking my own suspension... 2cents
I loved my 2012 non-ES... at the time. Just had to have the 2014ES. I was going to have to upgrade suspension at 68,000 miles anyway. So I got the ES before I sold the 2012. I certainly did not get as much as I would have liked to get for the 2012. But it went to a great home. Robert I assume you are still enjoying the 2012.

The OEM heated grips can be installed as a plug-n-play. I think I paid about $220 for the parts.bearclaw said:

Had a 2012 S10 ,non ES of coarse and have had a 2014 ES for 2 years. I would most likely buy a non ES next time. Less to go wrong with the ESA suspension and just add the factory Heated Grips. I find I don't use the ESA and its harder to change fork oil etc. Had ESA on my 2008 BMW GS12 and never used that ESA either. If Yamaha wanted to do something useful on this S10, they could add Shift on the Fly Traction Control and get rid of any Power Restrictions.

I use my ES all the time. I ride with many different configurations and in the past, I hated twisting shock springs.

2016 ES. From all reports it seemed like it would work for my weight, and it does. The roads around here go from smooth to cratered and back again constantly. I use the ES function quite a bit and like it. That, plus the fact that I was buying a brandy new, expensive (for me) bike led me to go for the gusto. I really needed heated grips anyway.
