Just how wrong did yamaha get the launch of the S10?

The master cylinder is mounted by your brake or clutch lever and creates fluid pressure which acts upon the slave cylinder that works your brake or clutch.
The slave cylinder is that pretty little red cap in the middle of the picture. (in case you were still wondering) I'd been riding for years, and even performed brake maintenance . . . . without knowing what stuff was called.
Went to Harbor Freight today and got a surprise. The clerk, a kid in his early 20s, said he was jealous of my bike. He said he'd been interested in the "adventure bikes" for awhile, and had been researching them. Said he knew it wasn't a KTM because it didn't have a funny looking headlight, and he knew it was a Yamaha because it didn't have a beak.
