I just love this bike. It’s new to me, but just hit 30k. Valve check was done by previous owner at 25k. Is there a major service for 30k?
Any advice from longer term owners? The ride and performance is just perfect and I want to

Rather than go through this in a piecemeal way, here's the maintenance schedule right from the service manual:

Even if you don't do your own maintenance, it's good to have this information when you take it to a shop, because you'll know what they're supposed to be doing, as opposed to those shops that'll tell you that you have to change the spark plugs with every oil change, or other nefarious nonsense.

Note that these items are from the manual for the 2014-2015 Super Tenere, but I suspect that very little (if anything) has changed for later models.

One thing that isn't covered in the maintenance chart is fork oil. For whatever reason, Yamaha doesn't specify any interval for its replacement. I change mine every two years, but there are probably other opinions on that.

This is my maintenance reminder that hangs on the wall of my garage. It's kind of a condensed version of all the info from the service manual:

If any of that stuff is difficult to read, send me a PM with your email address and I can forward you a PDF with the same info.

That is most awesome of you...thanks for posting all this. It will be really helpful to me. Last question, which will help me, at least from an oil change perspective. If I have no plans on going off-road, save for the occasional gravel or fire road, do I need the skid plate that's currently on there (T-Rex)? Thanks again!!

I leave mine on, even though I confine my off pavement riding to gravel and dirt roads. Even on the highway, it's surprising the kind of crap that you'll run over that can hit the engine, and the oil filter is pretty exposed. Just the other day I hit a chunk of 2x4 that I couldn't see because there was a truck ahead of me on the road. There are a lot of dings and nicks in my skid plate that are testament to the fact that a surprising amount of stuff gets flung up.

Also, every 6 months or so, lube the shifter pedal linkage. Most folks seem to use grease after disassembly, but I just squirt some dupont chain lube that I have around on the linkage points, that works for me. If you don't lube, you will notice that the pedal will stick and not return to position with upshifts, occasionally.

Leave it on. The biggest hit my skid plate received happened on the freeway just commuting home from work, not when off-roading. It was a big enough hit to significantly dent the plate. Hate to think what would have happened if that object had struck the thin casting of the sump somewhere.
