Was installing Altrider crash bars today on the new 2015ES, off the old Non ES 2014. (I painted them black first with Rustoleum Pro). I discovered on the right side, a connector hanging down with a plug in the end of it. Looks like a charging connection.
I know, I know, I should get the manual out and see what it says. I tried searching on here. I just figger someone will know lots faster here what that is for!!!!!
Thanks.....

Does the connector appear to lead to the battery? Maybe the dealer that you bought the bike from installed a battery tender connection prior to you purchasing the bike.

The wire looks to go up into the battery area. Guess I should pull the side cover and check it out.
That sounds plausible that someone added a battery tender connection......
Will check with the dealer next week, as it appears this is not a factory item....

Thanks!

Almost certainly, it is not a factory item.

That said, the dealer that I bought my bike from installed a battery tender pigtail, so perhaps it may not be uncommon for dealers to do so.

Not to stir the pot, but I suppose another option is that it was not a new bike when you bought it. It could be for heated gear or other accessory installed by a previous owner. Just a thought. Seems a bit strange. R ::024::

Mine had a charger pigtail installed by the dealer. It was part of the sales pitch for the "premium maintenance package" that included "free batteries for life". Part of the package was a battery tender. It came off immediately as it wasn't a standardized type connection and therefore not compatible with my equipment.

I'll give even odds you've got yourself a battery tender hookup but yes, verify that for sure.
Nice of somebody to be thoughtful like that, eh? My '12 had one I had to be sure of also.
But if it has a red button on it- do NOT push the button! ::013::

judging by the thread title, I thought maybe this was another little Johnny joke.

Without a doubt it's a Battery Tender lead, installed by the dealer. My local dealer installs them on all new bikes on the floor. They rotate the bikes on and off the battery tenders, then just leave the leads on when the bike sells.

Yep, and battery tender lead or can be used for gloves, clothing etc........, now just have to get your equipment to be compatible.
Be careful when hooking up heated gear to a battery tender harness since they have different Amp ratings (or at least different fuses). The battery tender harness typically has a 7.5 Amp fuse but your average heated gear will have a 15 Amp fuse.

Ok, thanks. Going to pull the side cover and check the fuse size. I hope the side cover will come off with the Alt Rider crash bars......
Will post another picture with cover off in awhile.
Ya'll are good help.

Mystery solved! The dealer responded that they install a tender lead on all bikes they sell.
I checked the fuse, it IS a 7.5 amp. Will keep this good info in mind if I get some heated gear. (Yes, I know the fuse is not visible in the picture. It is one of the flat mini fuses.)
Thanks to all.

PS Sorry about the misleading post title. I can see how that might have been worded better. ::025::

It is no problem taking off the right side cover with the Alt Rider bars. Fairly simple, but let's not get into the left side....

Those battery tender plugs are known as SAE type. I have one hooted up to my battery so that it's on the tender when it's parked. Because there's so little room for extra wiring on the ES models, I have wired my autocom system (which is mounted under the pillion seat) and my GPS to a single SAE plug and I plug this into the battery tender plug to power those devices when the bike is moving.
