Is your OEM topcase "loose" when locked ??

I know a lot of us are frustrated with how loose & sloppy the Yamaha OEM topcase lid can be even when it's locked! I picked up a 2-pak of these "Spring Loaded Butterfly Twist Latch Keeper Toggle Clamp for Case Box" from Amazon, and they keep the lid closed nice & snug! They JUST fit !!

I think I get what the OP is saying. My OEM lids have just a bit of "warp" to them. So, loose-fitting lids in a sense but not rattling or flapping in the wind. I don't think mine are getting worse at a significant rate. Mine are still waterproof. But yeah if my lids do get worse this is a good idea to squeeze some more life out of them. Thanks OP!

Exactly! You described my problem to a T !! Warped to the point of having approx 3/8" of space at the topcase seal at either end. They were obviously not "flapping in the wind", but I could envision an eventual lock failure and/or water leak problem in the future if I didn't do anything to solve the issue.

Mine was the same. Just remove the box and glue some rubber shims to the mount to take up that extra little bit of slack. Mine "moves no more" !!
Videolester, would you mind posting pictures? I just noticed my OEM top case moving around a bit more. A riding buddy pointed it out while riding this weekend. I came home this evening and found some cracks on the OEM rack (pics below). I immediately began the thread search. Hopefully the case isn't damaged in any way.

Here's what I did to reduce the slack below the topcase. Just do the same on both L&R sides.rubber.jpg

Thanks for the pictures actually showing the cracks.
My top case has been loose-wobbly since new, it now has over 100,000 miles now so after seeing your pictures I will be checking mine closely for cracks.
