Is it OK to charge the battery while it is still installed in the bike?

So I have not been riding her as much as I would like and the battery is unhappy with me. Barely starts it lately.

Soooooooo... I bought me a battery charger thingy: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001JSTM8I which is supposed to be compatible with the fancy AGLM battery in our Super Tenere motorcycles.

The battery charger thingy has arrived and it is time to give the battery some love.

So can I attach the battery charger to the battery while the battery is all in place and hooked up or will I risk damaging something on the bike?

Thanks for your guidance on this guys. The owner's manual did not offer any helpful guidance on this that I could find.

I use an optimate.... it stays on that whenever I leave the bike for a while... and it's not done it any harm ;)

For years I have used Optimate charging on all my bikes. Like the S 10 they all have sealed batteries and are charged with the battery installed, no problems.::021::

No problem with your AGM.

Whatever you do, do NOT use that charger on a lithium-ion though. The disulfide feature will ruin a Li-Ion real fast.

Yup. Install a battery tender cable fused from the battery out the left side and plug in the tender whenever you like.

If you are lucky enough to live where the temperature goes around zero F, you can use it to plug in your heated gear and ride whenever the ice and snow is under control!

Not sure I plugged the tenere into the tender last year. Was able to ride all winter at least once every 10 days and never a problem starting.

Now the show bike was plugged in all winter. Went to start it in February and found that I had popped the tender fuse doing something foolish in September/October. Need a new tender that does not show green when NOT really connected to the battery!
