Yep, my single "major parts failure"... final drive seal, fixed under warranty but the tech (in San Diego) said labor cost would have been about $150. Seal itself was $10.

Also had 2 leaky fork seals, one replaced under warranty, the other one I fixed in 2 minutes with a Sealmate tool to clean some gunk out from under the seal.

Pinion seals leaked for a bit, then stopped.

Left headlight harness just burned, fixed for $3.

This it at 47,000 miles, the last 36,000 travelling from US to Sth America over the past year.

The only "weakness" I found was when I dropped the bike on the left side before I fitted the Givi guards. There was enough flex in the radiator fan mount to push it into the radiator and caused it to burn out.

I'm pissed at the damn oil and filter! Stuff needs replaced every 4 - 6k miles whether I want it to or not ::013:: Oh, and tires keep wearing out!

Seriously though, fork seals under covered under my extended warranty at 17,000 miles and that o-ring recall early on. Haven't had the headlight harness issue although the left headlight will stop working on occasion so I guess if I actually looked I might find a problem there.

Just did the 26,000 mile valve check (in spec), changed the airfilter (was filthy) and spark plugs (.040 gap vs. .031 - .034 new).

Fork seals and front wheel bearings on my bike at a little over 20,000 kms now. Probably down to my riding more than Yamaha's design though. I have used it on gnarly trails with river crossings, etc.

Wow! There is another failure of the ABS unit..... I was told mine was the only one worldwide! ::025::

My ABS unit died at about 50,000kms! No warranty but was about $1000 for the part and I fitted it myself... This is the only major failure... ::021::

I am now at just over 11,000 miles and the third back tyre has almost worn out, it also seems to have a serious flaw whereby dirt and grime sticks to it, and I do not trust the brake pads to last until 20k either. The worst fault is definitely that it loses fuel, I can fill it up and about 200 miles later it has all gone.

My dealer has also informed me it will need new spark plugs at 12k, and that the oil will need replacing - for the SECOND TIME

This is just not acceptable Mr Yamaha ::)

First plugs at 25,000 miles, no wear, great color. 12k seems awfully soon.
Watch your rear brake pads, they go quick.

As stated by others, tires are a problem on this machine and I'd say they qualify as a major part. I have a rear Heidenau that is close to 'failing' at only 1OKM! How many major parts fail that often? That's twice as frequent as the valve-check interval for crying out loud! I'm at my wit's end with this bike. ::013::

I am curious, and forgive me if this is already dicussed on the forum, I wish to find out the frequency of major part failure on the S10, for instance, water pump, fuel pump, etc. I want to keep my S10 for a few more years; I think will be good to look out for what might fail and stock parts.
Am I in the wrong spot? Is this a KTM forum?

nice! thanks for that.
I did forget that my rear shock started leaking at 22km. Splurged on a remote preload, two speed compression yacugar. Delicious.
