I am back from the floods in Southern Alberta, and will be launching from Edmonton on Canada Day for Inuvik on my beloved Big Blue. My kid bro will arrive today from Ottawa on his WeeStrom, and we are going to do the Northern thing together. Check out his blog here: ottawa2inuvil.blogspot.ca

Can't wait to hit the road!

Look up Olaf and Judy at the Arctic Chalet on your left as you get into Inuvik...charming couple and they have cabins for rent. They have a dogsled operation, and breed their all-white Huskies on site. Also, Olaf is a retired bush pilot and there's nothing he can't fix! Y'all have fun.

So the trip went relatively well until the return from Inuvik. About 80 kms north of Eagle Plains, I hit a deep patch of gravel and high-sided at about 50 kmh. I was out for about five minutes- it appears that I held on to Big Blue throughout, and so rode the Dempster on my face. Thank the gods for my excellent helmet. It took me three or four days to make it to Whitehorse for proper medical attention. It seems that I am made of titanium - no breaks in my back, neck or hip - just a lot of bruises and a damaged rotator cuff.

Big Blue was hauled off the Dempster to Eagle Plains by a passing trucker. She started the very next day, and short of some plastic that has now been crazy glued together, and some "character scuffs" on the crash bars and, oddly enough the front brake reservoir, she is good to go. She was loaded up today in Eagle Plains and should be back in Edmonton in the next few days. The owner of Eagle Plains, Stan, is a prince of a man who looked after my brother and I very well.

Next year I will go back and finish the ride. I'll be f*&#ed if I will survive the Taliban only to be defeated by a road.

Sorry to read about your crash, PPCLI Guy, but it sounds like both you and your bike came out of it pretty well, all things considered. A high side is the nastiest kind of get-off. By the way, thank you for your service to our country! ::008::

Cheers,

Bruce

Sounds like an epic end to your ride. Glad you weren't banged up too much.

Better luck next time!

Glad you weren't out of commission too long and that you'll ride again. I am a new S Ten rider and have the Inuvik trip on my bucket list.

I picked up Big Blue yesterday from the shipper, and drove her to the house for de-Dempstering. I discovered a few other cracks and bruises, including one of the windshield posts snapped right through. This morning the claims adjuster dropped by, and this afternoon I took her to the dealer for an estimate on the repairs. We'll see what the butcher's bill is!
