Attention southern Ontario Super Tenere riders. The International Brotherhood of Adventure Riders - Ontario, a Facebook group, is planning an informal get-together at "A Vicious Cycle" (http://aviciouscycle.ca/mainpages/default.aspx) in New Dundee, Ontario on Saturday, June 28, 2014 at 10 AM. The concept will be simply to ride some interesting roads in that area. Should be a fun get-together with other like-minded riders on other brands of adventure bikes. "Ridge" from Burlington, who is a member of this forum, might be coming, and it would be nice to meet other Ontario Super Tenere riders too! ::012::
Cheers!

Thought you guys might like to see a pic from this event. My blue Super Tenere is front and centre, and Ridge (Trevor) is on his black ST to my right. Jeff Wilford (sorry, I can't remember your forum handle, Jeff) is directly behind me. We all commented that this was the most Super Teneres any of us had seen in one place at one time. We hung out for about an hour or so at A Vicious Cycle and chatted with Canadian Dakar racer Lawrence Hacking, who was selling copies of his book To Dakar and Back. I purchased a copy and started reading it over the weekend. Fascinating story. He is also a very nice guy, and very enthusiastic about the Super Tenere. We had a good ride, a mix of pavement, dirt and gravel to get to the dealership, and a nice bunch of secondary roads thereafter. A very good day of riding.
Incidentally, after I broke off from the group and headed home, I uncovered some anecdotal evidence that my Hornet electronic deer alert might be effective. I was on a deserted country dirt road, headed down into a valley, and a large adult deer appeared about 150-200 metres ahead of me. He looked up in my direction, appeared startled, and took off into the bush. I don't know if he heard the motor, the exhaust note, or the whistle, but whatever it was, it spooked him off the road. The reason I think it was the whistle he heard is that it is the only item from my bike that projects sound forward. The doppler effect leads me to believe he probably did not hear the engine or exhaust since I had not reached his position on the road. Just theory and conjecture really. I can't say with certainty. http://www.xp3hornet.com/

Cheers,

Bruce
