Hi guys, I've not posted or been on for a while, so hope you all had a great Christmas and new year! Right to the matter at hand. Intercoms. Helmet is schuberth c3 pro. I really wanted the src system by cardo as it looked nice and clean and was just 'right' for this lid BUT my riding mates use interphone (f5 mc). And from what I can tell the cardo system doesn't work with anything other than another cardo . So to cut to the chase I've decided I will too purchase a interphone f5 mc unit and get the schuberth specific pro kit to work with it. My question is does anyone use the interphone units? What are they like can you hear at motorway speeds. And rather crucially can you easily chop and change from intercom mode to just listening to music from a iPhone? I'm sure my pals don't want to hear my music nor me singing ::005:: and finally does the sat nav instructions override and interrupt when needed either intercom or music? So I'm hoping the kit will all work together. iPhone 6s, tom tom rider 400, and interphone f5 mc.

I would be very grateful for your thoughts or experiences and thank you in advance for any replies ;D

Intercoms are a REALLY competitive market, so they stay fairly close in capabilities. The newer ones can also communicate with each other, as opposed to the need to stay within one model from one manufacturer. Since you are in the UK and not the US, that would be a really important feature to assure before buying.

afaik all the current generation units assign a priority to phone, intercom, music, GPS commands, and even FM radio (Sena 20S).

With respect to how well you can hear them, we've had great experiences with both the Sena SMH10 and 20S after Sena got their teething bugs worked out several years ago. The most important aspect of clarity is where you mount the speakers in your helmet. I'll occasionally get calls on the phone and folks generally just assume I'm on the hands-free built into my truck till telling them otherwise.

Do compare how long the batteries last.

I made a mistake and bought Scala G9's a while back, great units when used in a pair (we had three, one for my lad as pillion and one for the Mrs on her bike) unlike the Sena, the Scala's don't work with any other units, it's a pain with some phones and Sat Navs, I've managed to work around it but in hindsight the Sena would have been the way to go.

Just bear in mind if you buy a helmet specific comms system you are tied to it. When it's time to replace the helmet will you buy a different make and dump the comms? Highly unlikely at £300. I would strongly recommend a universal kit that you can move from helmet to helmet. The Schuberth comms collar is a classy bit of kit but they are fragile and support isn't the best!! I'm on my 3rd one in 6 years and I won't buy another.

Good point. I've moved both the SMH10 and 20S between Arial, Bell, HJC, Shoei, and even a Bilt.

Just picked up a 20S for my new Arai XD4 and so far its been a solid unit. One major word of caution though, make sure you place your mic in the right spot. Cycle Gear installed mine, went to call my mom and she could not understand anything I was saying. Tried calling my boss while just sitting on the bike not moving, and he said it sounded like I had a shoe in my mouth. I moved the mic down about an inch or so, and now I sound crystal clear to those that I've called.
