That time has come around again - the dreaded reminder , your bike insurance is due for renewal, however as a valued customer we (MCE insurance) can do all the work for you as we can keep you on the road for £600 (about a thousand dollars) an increase of about 50 per cent on last year!
This will mark the anniversary of my proud purchase of the SuperTen, a time for celebration surely? But no, they go and spoil it with a rip off quote ( and they put a £2000 excess charge in there) I was really pleased with them last year but now.... they're all at it - rely on customer inertia to rip you off. I'm 60 years old, clean licence, no claims for over ten years, fitted a satellite tracker ( since last year) ground anchor and Abus chain-what more do they want?

anyway Internet search threw up Bennetts insurance at £410 with a £500 excess and 90 days European insurance - that's a big difference. Check out a few more tomorrow, difference is enough for a another farkle! What's insurance like for you guys across the pond?
Should add I live in London , always pushes prices up but....

Pretty much the same story here mate. All over the board.
I'm one of the fortunate ones who gets reasonable quotes. 4 Bikes covered for about $700 per year.
Others will get a quote for double that, covering just the Tenere.

Lots of theories abound. But I can't make sense of it.

Traded in a AN650K4 Burgman Executive on 7 March, while back in NZ for a fortnight after having been in NW Thailand for 7 weeks riding a CB500X on all manner of roads, tracks and trails. My AN650K4 had been with Protecta insurance (NZ) valued by me at NZ$5000 my premium was NZ$250 with an excess of the same. The insurance policy I had for two years and the premium remained the same throughout, plus the policy also included NZ Automobile Assoc. (NZAA) road side assistance etc. Consequently I didn't renew my NZAA membership when it came time. So I traded on a new 2014 AN650L4 valued at NZ$18000 (replacement value) and the premium went from NZ$250 to NZ$500 while the premium etc remained the same. A number of contributing factors were/are what usually determine or influence premium pricing; age (mid forties), insurance claim history (no claims for 20yrs+), licence (full & clean) the AN650 is classed as a category 1 - deemed a scooter, despite it being a 650cc and pretty much a wolf in sheeps clothing, meaning the only relationship to a scooter is the step through tunnel section (although purists argue that), a semi automatic CVT (tip tronic manual mode viz a viz auto), and 50L of underseat storage; the scoot is garaged and importantly it's not in a major city like Auckland. Major cities and certain areas/suburbs attract different premiums based on 'risk'. The XT1200Z on the other hand is a category 3 bike and that attracts a premium of somewhere in the vicinity of NZ$1200 for a similarly insured value.
Now if only one manufacturer would combine a maxi scoot with a ADV bike...

Insurance companies love us 20-something year old guys. But somehow the Tenere cost less to insure than my last bike, a Harley Sportster. Go figure...

By UK standards, most everything in the US is extremely cheap. But one commonality we share is that when insurance comes due is the time to shop for a new company advertising a great rate for new customers. Sounds like you found one.
