This is indeed an interesting thread.

Figuring out the black box of insurance pricing is like: ::010::

I have USAA, but they sub out to Progressive. My wife had a nice long discussion with them the other day. It turns out the first year is real high, then it starts going down each year, with it really being noticable in the 3rd year. We learned our insurance will go down by about 30% next year on the S10. 250 and 500 deductables. If I raise them both to $500 it will go down some more. I also know they have this bike listed as a sport bike. :-[ which we all know it isn't.

So... I'm going to call around and also push Progressive to properly categorize this bike.

USAA allowed me to keep my motorcycle with them when I moved to California from Belgium. I was told by USAA that if I was a new customer or a new motorcycle rider I would of been sent to Progressive. They also said that California is one of the few states left that USAA still insures motorcycles for seasoned riders.

I dont understand the whole insurance industry any more.
I have a clean history but every few years whatever insurance company I am currently sending my money to decides to jack the rate on my policy not by a little but a lot.
I was with Dairyland for years, first they tried it so I switched to Progressive, after a few years they tried to double my rate so I switched to Foremost. They tried to jack the premium after a couple of years so I went shopping again and wound up back at progressive for less than they tried to hit me for several years prior.
Its a racket.

After reading this post, My Progressive policy renews on 2-8-13 and they wanted $1200 for my Teneree and a Yamaha Grizzley, I desided to check with my agent on Friday. She called me Tuesday and said that Progressive wouldn't budge, but Allied would take both machines for $300! Which is only 25% of what Progessive wanted for full coverge! Needless to say I wrote the check. By the way, I live in Cottonwood AZ

This is a bait and switch tactic practiced by many insurers to extract every dollar they can from you. They sucker you in with low premiums and gradually (or not so gradually) raise rates hoping you won't notice or you'll think it's too much trouble to switch carriers. I was married to an insurance agent and this the most common complaint from her clients with clean driving and credit records.

Insurance is legalized gambling and the house always wins.

I've see this too. I wish Progressive didn't think the Ten was a 1200 cc sport bike or I'd have stuck with them as they're the only carrier who's ever gone down in price over time for me. Now I'm at nationwide on the bike. We'll see how that works out.

I just got one of my renewals. The Tenere, ST1300 and GS1000s cost me $345 for 12 months. The Tenere has $1000 deductible Collision and Comp and the others 2 bikes have the Texas minimum on them.

I'm paying roughly $700/year for my Tenere and my son's 2003 DL100 Strom.

The catch with Progressive was that HE gets listed as the Tenere rider, since they use the worst driver on the most expensive machine. The Strom portion was only $95/year.

bye bye Progressive, as I just bundled it with the car and house at Allstate.

I just received my renewal rate from Progressive and it was for $322.00. /year. That is for my XT1200 and an XT225. The 225 runs around $50.00 for the year. I have full coverage for both cycles including replacement value on the Tenere (this is the last year for that. It is only good for two years.) and a zero deductable. I went with the disappearing deductable a number of years ago; I'm now down to zero. The beauty of the disappearing deductable is I started at $1000.00 for the low rate, and it dropped $250.00 a year (if you had no claims).

I'm a 50 year old male in northern Penna. with a clean driving record. The only thing to hit up here is deer. (well, now the gas industry has made it more interesting on the byways around here lately.) I live in the middle of nowhere in a low population area. I have been happy with the prices Progressive has been giving me over the years.

I'm also with USAA who farms my motorcycle insurance out to Progressive. They quoted me $511 on the Super Tenere. Together with the DR, it will be $711 for the year with a $500 deductible.

36 and married with perfect credit and no traffic violations or insurance claims, ever.

So 397 a year with aaa isn't that bad from what I'm reading. 100 deductible... Full coverage. No rental, because I have a car as well...

I am also a USAA member, for the past 20+ years now. When I went shopping for motorcycle insurance 6+ years ago USAA sent me straight to Progressive. So I have been using Progressive now for 6+ years, just got my renewal . . . for just the Tenere and the 100k/300k/Medical/Roadside/$3k accessory coverage and $0 deductible (I have the disappearing deductible option) my yearly policy cost is $170! This is for a policy in a suburb of Phila, PA, bike is listed for pleasure only (not commuting) and stored in my garage.

It really is crazy the variations in people's policies, even for similar coverage's.

That is amazing. I have the same Progressive from USAA as you. With less coverage, disappearing deductible, while living in a suburb of Dallas, Texas...yet I pay a little over $1500 a year for my Tenere. Also listed as pleasure stored in my garage. Maybe I am not old enough to be considered a "safe" rider? But if I add a cheap dirt bike to my policy my premium drops over $500. Anyone have a dirt bike they want to get rid of?

I had an old Ducati monster 620 with progressive for 300 a year full coverage. Then I got the S10 and they wanted upwards of 1300 a year for just that bike, giving me a total policy of 1540.

I sold the duc and move the s10. I think where you live has the biggest say in what you pay
