Progressive has this listed as a dual purpose. $142/yr for full coverage 100/300k, UMI, 3k accessory coverage, 500 ded comp/coll.
Not in Florida on the West coast. I spend several hours on the phone going round and round. It's rated as a sport bike, and the least expensive insurance with minimal coverage was 700.00. But I am happy for those that can get it rated as a DS. I think this area has a problem with sport bikes though.

Progressive sets rates by using the least experienced rider in a household, putting him on the most expensive or highest risk machine. With a 21 year old son and our multi-bike discount, our Progressive bill breaks out the 2007 FJR1300 at $210/yr, the XTZ12 at $345/yr, and the Wee is something like $170. The KLR is a whopping $95.

Odd, I called the national Progressive number..twice. Price was so low the first time I was concerned. Both times they rated the bike as a dirt bike and set my full coverage at $89 per year. That was after 3 Progressive managers had a meeting about how to set it. I do have 4 bikes on the policy and have been with them for a long time so that has something to do with the price. But also totalled a bike a few months ago, so would have expecte the discount to have been offset.

I just did it online on Progressive as "other touring bike not listed." I wonder if I will get a call or email shortly with a change in price.

thats exactly what I did with geico, and they called back within 2 hours and said, it was a "sport bike" not a "touring bike" according to them. rate went up by 400.00

maybe in VA, but not here. I had insurance with them 25 years, and not once collected on it. I dropped them after that arguing about their rating...

I've got 35 years on road bikes, my wife has 10 years riding, 30 years as a passenger, no acccidents. Maybe I'm crazy but that should count for something.

I have had State Farm for a while but do have a new agent who seems unsure of the bike. They did quote me $ 310.00 a year with high limits and a $ 1,000.00 deductible (as on all my vehicles). Hope it holds true as I am happy with this rate.

OK try to top this deal.
I have had 3 bikes on one policy and today I just got the new updated policy with the Tenere added. The policy went up $31 annually
Adding the new bike increased my multi vehicle discount and the other bikes actually went down resulting in the big increase of $31 for 4 bikes fully insured.

Actually, that does have a bearing on rates. In Colorado, the shorter riding season is factored in for our rates. Not sure how they do it, since our weather can be quite nice some winters too.

This is for four bikes? Since I own a lot of bikes, I've always been interested in a policy that takes into account that I can't ride more than one at a time and would insure them as a lot, but I've never had much luck finding such a policy. The rates I have with State Farm are similar and they've always done well by me, but I get nicked for every bike the same.

I may give Progressive a call.

- Mark

Edit: For kicks, I just went through the Progressive online rate calculator for three bikes (FJR, S1000RR, and DRZ) and while it spit out a great rate - $125/yr for all three bikes - for basic $100K/$300K/$50K liability, it wanted well over $1K for full coverage for all three, which is worse than I'm doing with State Farm. YMMV.

Not questioning you Bob but I would like to see a text (legal) copy of that policy. If it worked in California I would leave AMIG (through AAA) in a heartbeat. My KLR is more than your three and the Super Tenere is $500.

How many claimed riding miles a year: ?
Type of riding: Recreational; Commuting; ?
Licensed riders in the household: ?

As for the comment about multiple motorcycles (vehicles) and being only able to ride one at a time. I feel the same as you but you could wreck everyone of them in the same day.

In 2006/2007 I has AIS (broker) and they went from cheap to expensive. In 2007/2008 I had Progressive and it was inexpensive. If I remember correctly it was $3xx. The next year they wanted $1,200. I came across another person at a motorcycle shop that had the same expereince. He also found another insurer.

Sorry to confuse, the $126 is the premium for the Tenere.
My policy total is now $828 for 4 bikes,.
It was $797 for 3 bikes, thats an increase of $31 to add the Tenere.
Anybody that wants to come and look at my Progressive policy is welcome to.
I have been with the same independent insurance agent for 20+ years.

That price sounds good to me. Once you get into three bikes the add-ons are inexpensive. I had three not long ago and when I sold one the policy changed about $50. Dropped the second one and the policy changed almost $300. The Tenere made it increase a bunch and I am asking for a comparison.

I have a bill from Progressive for $598 for the Tenere. $100/$300, collision, un/under insured, etc.

Home owner, multi bike, and other discounts.

My previous total for 3 bikes was about $1,200. This bike raised the total by 50%!

On the original topic of classification, I just got my GEICO policy last week and they’ve got the Tenere classified as a touring model. Otherwise, I’m not sure my rates are worth comparing because I have a 16yo on the policy who just got his endorsement two months ago, so I'm paying more.
