Insurance Classification Problems

I have spent the day online, on the phone completely frustrated with the lack of knowledge that insurance companies have on this bike. They are all classifying the bike as a pure"sport" bike, which lends itself to much higher insurance premiums. I am getting bids of 600.00 plus for near minimal coverage.

Does anyone have an insurance company that can classify this bike as it should be, and offer reasonable insurance premium rates?

thats what I was trying to tell them, they would have no part of it. Thanks, I'll check into Allstate.

I called a week ago... the quote was reasonable... I got my insurance card yesterday for a "Yamaha Model Not F" which I assume is model not found. I'm pretty sure they just gave me a price for a 1199cc motorcycle. Allstate has been very reasonable with me after the first two or three years.

Nationwide did not have the bike listed as a XT1200Z but they did know what a Super Tenere was!

Allstate looks to be the most cost effective thus far about $500 annually with uninsured motorists. They do NOT classify it as a sport bike as said earlier. If I'm gonna pay sport bikes prices, I want sport bike POWER!

Progressive didn't have it listed a week ago so we decided it was a touring bike (the example given was the Goldwing). Worked for me!

Geico has no clue on the VIN, have asked us several times. Now a letter stating a mistake with the VIN please verify. They did give us INS tho.

as long as you have policy issued, no worries, but they already showed me that they can "change their quote to reflect the TRUE classification of the bike"

I got foremost, they have it classified as a duel sport bike and got it for $445
I don't understand how or why this is happening. I had Foremost on my Goldwing at 406.00, and have a good record and credit rating.
They told me the Tenere was rated as a sport bike and gave me a rate of 860.00
Too many people are having real problems while others are not. Just does not make sense.

I went with Nationwide and got great full coverage for 384.00. They rated the bike as a Dual Sport.

no problem for me - although as of last week neither State Farm nor Progressive had anything specific to the XT1200Z in thier quote databases. I ended up with Progressive, but rate is tough to figure given the multibike discount, etc.

I think Allstate and Nationwide are the two that are consistently giving people a DS/ touring rating with rates that are consistent with the respective locations.

I have American Family. Very unfriendly to sport bikes, others OK. That is a long story for another thread.

Multiple bikes and cars, $350 for good coverage, 500 deductible with accessory coverage.

That's the truth, I was quoted $440 for all the bells and whistles and $2200 if it got classified as a sport bike.
