I purchased a used set of Yamaha OEM panniers for my new to me 2016 super tenere. Unfortunately i don't have the key for these locks. I've called several locksmiths in the Denver area and no one is able to make me a key for these locks or use my ignition key to open these locks.Figured id ask before spending $80+ on new locks/keys from https://aomc.mx/23P-28407-00-00.html?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&adpos=&scid=scplp23P-28407-00-00&sc_intid=23P-28407-00-00&gclid=CjwKCAjwxOCRBhA8EiwA0X8hi_90eZpQD4xZuk21R7CUkq43HSrCmhx35DIekmaMAx0dAC5W0ksPUBoC5-cQAvD_BwE

Might be the same circumstance. Free lock offer didn't look like it included keys, either. Maybe someone on here knows a shop that can/will make a key (or re-set the tumblers for your key) that you can send the locks to for whatever mod can make them work.

wow thank you for all the help. This is a great community
Three suggestions once you get locks with a key.

1. Make sure you use a little blue loctite on the two tiny screws that hold each lock in place; you can read many posts about the problems you may have if you don't.

2. Always push down on the lid when you lock/unlock the box. This will make your life easier and help prevent breakage of the plastic locking hook (for which there is no replacement part).

3. Consider asking a locksmith to cut a new box key on a ILCO X254 blank. It's shorter and stronger and will work better for the boxes. Have the smith line it up and cut it like he would a normal copy and don't worry about the extra length of the master that is not copied, the locks don't need that. This may not be needed if you follow #2, but too many have bent their keys in pannier locks by forcing them to turn without taking the pressure off by pushing down the top. It wouldn't necessarily be a problem for you since you will already have a different key than the rest of your bike uses, but there have been those with original locks that use their bike's ignition ignition/gas cap key and have been stuck and unable to start their bikes with a bent key after using it forcefully in the pannier/top box locks.

Just a few thoughts. Good luck. Hope you were able to grab those eBay locks with the key.

Thank you for all the advice! T wo members actaully sent me their locks at the same time so im going to post a lock set for free here soon. I was able to get a code from a member and just go the keys made. Ilco x248's, i asked for the shorter version Ilco x254 (i think) he said he couldnt do that so ill go somewhere else to get shorter keys made.

The right smith can do it because one did it for me. They just line it up like any other key copy and stop when they run out of key (254). You may be dealing with someone who just uses the modern computer-run key copier and its possible the computer can't handle it. A smith with a good old fashioned band-controlled key copier can make it no sweat. You might have to have a 248 cut from the code to use as a master from which to cut the 254. Didn't test it, but I think the shorter, stouter 254 will also work for your gas cap.

Good luck. Be sure to follow those hints I sent for long time happiness with your boxes.

Yes a good locksmith can pretty easily make a non matching Yamaha lock match the other Yamaha locks on a Tenere, I had one do it for me when I lost a lock on my first Tenere because apparently the dealer that originally installed the luggage didn’t know enough to use blue lock Tite on the small screws that hold the locks in place. All locksmiths are definitely not the same but I‘m lucky to have a very good and reasonable one within about 20 miles.
