I plan on cutting out some of the black side panels and plucking in some silver screen material.
Should be a weekends bit of work for a very hip visual mod.
Might even add some inexpensive LED lighting via VVME and some other small off road LED's.

had the same thought but then realized I'd rather build a mold first then make some nice carbon fiber side panels with the cutouts and screens in place.

Sounds like a neat way to dress up the bike. I also like the idea of simply painting the outside area of the side panels silver and leave the center part black.

Don't you need a permit to use a Dremel Tool ? Let's be careful out there. :D You don't want it to end up looking like a Swiss bike. Get it ?? Swiss bike ?? Swiss Cheese? Holes in the bike ???

Aw, maaaaaaaannnnnnnnnnnn. Still got it. Old dog's still got it. OK maybe time for a nap. R

mellow, have you decided to keep your order?
Yes sir... I had a moment of weakness and then snapped out of it.. only lasted about a day... I figured with the demand on this bike, if I just absolutely hate the thing, I can easily get out of it for what I'm into it... so why not take the chance, I MAY end up liking it more than my ST in which case I can sell that and probably pay off the S10... it's a win win situation unless I like both bikes.. in which case it's a win win situation...

Yup. Did a fair amount of custom fiberglass fabrication and mold building a few years ago for race boats. While I haven't personally worked with carbon Fiber yet the guy I'm going to be working with builds racing parts with it every day and can make some extremely light and strong stuff.

I'll throw up a thread once the molds are built and I'm comfortable with the product for anyone that might be interested.

I've thought about laying up some side panels as well in carbon after making the mold, Etc.... I have done carbon for some aero parts and motorcycle / auto parts. I'm going to be building a few other parts as well for the ST in carbon...... But on the side panels they FLEX in a crash or a lay down..... Carbon panels don't flex the same as these plastic ones..... If people want the Carbon look you can save a TON of money and get some Di-Noc 3M carbon vinyl and lay it over the stock panels.... (check out Di-Noc on you-tube) You can get it for $25-50.. And it will still flex... AND if you scratch it all up or tear it up on an ADV ride you can pull it all off and just redo it again for cheep..... I like the carbon look on the ~R~ but don't want to lay all that carbon up and then it just break... I'm gunna ride the crap out of it in the nasty ! If you like the carbon look, this is easy and cheep............ ;D If anyone is interested I can make some pre-cut carbon panels up and just mail them out...

I like that and thanks for the offer. I'm also in Texas and would it be possible to meet up to see what you have done?

Sure.... PM me

Here is a part I made for my own bike two years ago.. They are just some wind / rain deflectors I made with Carbon..... They can be installed and then taken off anytime with no drilled in holes in the plastic... Work great, I run this in the winter for warmth and cold rain protection.

I dont know how to make the picture bigger so you can zoom in and see??

I'd be interested to see how you do the molds and the side panels.

Of the side panels? Ive done a few... but it gets expensive in carbon fiber... Allot of people think they look kick ass but the price is not "production" , made in china...... LOL ya can PM if ya like... :)
