I've often contemplated why this forum has that.....intangible quality that many forums just never acquire. I describe it as a kinder gentler and far less sensitive community. :)

There are probably lots of reasons.
But I think it's the drive shaft on these Teneres.

I know I know. Huh???

But here's how I arrived at that a few years back:

I've ridden all my life. And as conservative as I might be by nature, I've always found 2-wheels as my outlet for my inward hooliganism. Even my wife was aware that if I went too long of a stretch without a motorcycle jaunt, my normally long fuse would shorten up. (She'd recommend to me "honey, I think you need to go get on one of those bikes for a couple of hours and I'll have you a nice supper cooked when you get home." Man that lady knew me well. Lol )

I digress. Sorry.

So the Tenere finally arrives in Yankeeland and I fetch mine home! My first shaft drive.
Shortly after the break-in period I'm heading home from work and reach one of my favorite wheelie spots. (safe and no law enforcement)

She did come up. Straight up, in fact. And my brother, on a KLR behind me, described it as a HUGE bike when vertical. (he had witnessed me wheelie-many times on my sv650 & 950SM)
In addition, the Big Beast came down with a bit of jarr, if you know what I mean.

So, no more wheelies. The first motorcycle I had in 50 years that I don't want to wheelie! And the only one with a drive shaft. See the connection?

I claim the shaft uncovered the hidden gentleman trait I didn't know I had inside. Not much, mind you, but measurable!

This forum's culture MUST be a result of that same spell?

Agreed. A great forum without attitude. Us S10 owners are a mature, helpful bunch.

And modest - don't forget modest!

;)

We came through our issues and have kinda settled into a pretty good rhythm. I've developed friends through this and the ADV forum who I enjoy seeing at camp fires and also think it also helps how long a lot of us have known each other through previously owning VStroms, FJRs, and such.

::026:: Everybody here is starting on the same page. Most have other bikes too, but all but a few have at least one Tenere. I am also on Two Wheel Texans, but that is a different crowd; not saying different is bad, but it is different.

I know exactly what you mean. I didn't quit...don't think I could, but I do limit them to around a foot or less. Much less jarring. Still scratches the itch.

I've enjoyed being part of this forum since 2010. Every time I start a browser window it's the first tab I open and has perpetually stayed in that number one spot for over 6 years. I've had the pleasure of meeting so many people from this forum. I love when the screen name materializes into a real person with whom you can share a ride, a beer, a meal, a relaxed conversation, or even a weekend. I've met more member than I can count, and I've appreciated every encounter.

Yes, the Tenere has attracted a lot of great people to this forum.

You're such the hooligan.
Immune to the drive shaft spell.

The need to wheelie is an affliction I acquired as a child. The drive shaft spell gives me the most relief I've had from the condition, but I don't believe it's curable. ;D

Ditto abt this forum being great and Modest. Learned lots of things that save $$. Similar to the forum I use to spent time when I had the Versys, kawasakiversys.com. Similar mindset of owners but different bike.

It is PERFECT when you have a great bike and is supported by a great forum.

Agreed

Without the forum I'd have been struggling for info when I bought my S10. This is one of the best around too for helping out the uninitiated.

I'd like to add my thanks to all the members who help out regardless of the question. A lot of sites you get flamed for asking something that has been asked before. Here you either get the answer or pointed to where the answer lies. Makes it so much easier than pondering for hours on whether you should/shouldn't ask!!

it is a great forum... a type of family even... maybe that's a stretch, but a group of people who enjoy the same thing... and sometimes even a debate breaks out , drives the moderators crazy.... that just adds to the uniqueness
of this forum... made a great friend and riding buddy through this forum .... and as time moves on and Yamaha does something , this forum may slip away... so enjoy while you can...

Anything is possible, but I don't see enough people getting rid of the Big Pig to hurt the forum. I mean you have guys out there, cough....Snakebitten, that have several bikes that they use for certain situations. But everybody, or at least a BUNCH of guys, always come back to the Super Tenere. I think if Yamaha builds a smaller/lighter version, people will get it as an "also" more than an "instead of".

If someone (cough :) ) is implying that even if bikes like the T7 are finally released, some of us will still have a Super Tenere, and thus this board lives on............

Well, although my grandmother would correct me anytime I used the word "never", and I do understand the warning, I still can confidently claim that my Super Tenere is NOT going anywhere.

I can't say how widespread that theory is amongst all the owners here, but some of these guys were here BEFORE me, and one of them has bought about 4 or 5 S10's at this point. Maybe just him and I will be posting someday, but I post enough for 10 folks easily. lol

Besides, if it is true that Yamaha already looks at the S10 in a similar manner as the FJR, I think these unique machines are going to be around a long time.

Yup. Especially when you consider that the current FJR can trace its roots back to the 1984 FJ. But of course in 1984 the FJ was not intended to be a sport tourer. It was Yamaha's Super Sport offering. It too was described as being too big and heavy. Yamaha just keeps filling in the niches. There are several sizes of FZs; why not Teneres?
