Buster Poindexter must have ridden my Super 10.

It is hot enough that I am worried a bit.

What I feel is my left frame guard is fine, barely warm. But my right frame guard is on fire. It has been hot around here lately...100* or so.
I am NOT an ATGATT guy..I know I know..whahh whahhh whahh, blah blah blah... different topic, but lately I am working my butt off on my daughters Airstream remodel and once in a while I need to run to the hardware store for a can of this or a package of that and I am not going to gear up for a 5 mile back streets ride...helmet and off I go.

3 minutes in and if I touch my ankle against the right side frame guard I literally burn myself, not as bad a touching a HD pipe or something, but too hot to touch even with working man hands. The exhaust is not close to the guard and the engine is no closer on the right side than the left side guard so WHY is the right side so flaming hot?

Anyone else ever notice this? It is hot enough that when I am fully geared up and in my Gaerne Balance boots I can notice the heat difference.

I am really worried it is my skid plate which is a home made piece that is a copy of the ACD baby seat {LOL}

Any ideas or reasons? Fixes?

It sounds pretty normal... super hot.... Its 101-102 and the air around the radiator blowing on my left leg is almost painful with shorts on (running to lunch)... I feel ya !

If you have no lights on the dash, your probably (mechanically) good...

Sounds completely normal. The farther your leg gets from the fuel tank the warmer it is. Put your leg right up against the tank. It's slightly better there. The tiny sliver of air coming from between the shroud and tank is actually much cooler than the air coming out of the left side of the shroud.

None of my issue is on the left side. The radiator is hot but not that is to be expected. My issue is the right hand side down on the frame guard above the foot peg. Blistering hot!!!

I just don't see why that spot is so hot. The CAT is no closer really than the left side, the motor side case is the same distance left and right...just seems odd.

My concern is if my skid plate is covering the exhaust too much so it is hotter than it should be and then what air is flowing blows that crazy hot exhaust air right onto my ankle. Oh well. I will keep an eye on it. See if I can figure it out.

I was hoping some folks could reach down after a bit of riding and with a bare hand touch the left and right guards and see if theirs have a huge heat difference.

Seems normal, I know this is a bunch of whahh whahhh whahh, blah blah blah, but the gear helps protect you from outside influences, like this.. When I just wear shorts under mesh gear everything feels a lot warmer.

To be honest, I've never felt the right side, just the left and I know it gets pretty warm with the radiator there. That being said, this bike is not hot, the Honda ST1300, now that is hot (Mellow might have a different view point). On that moto I wrapped the pipes, painted the underside with heat reflecting material, and insulated the bottom of the drivers seat. I still got 2nd degree burns on my leg during a 1,000 mile ride in 100+ weather. ...wearing ATGATT. I'll take this bike any day!

After a one hour ride, using an IR thermometer to the area in question, there's a 7 degree (F) difference in temperature.

I do not have an IR temp gauge, but my ankle thermometer says 100+*F difference L to R...
I am not stressed about it, just seems quite a difference.
I'm curious, what were the temperature readings, I must compare but right now it's actually the coolest July I've ever seen.

Heat is a non-issue for me on this bike, even in stop and go traffic although I try not stop next to a bike when the Fan kicks in. :D :D They get blasted from that jet sounding cooling fan.

Yesterday I was pulling out of a Home Depot and there was a pan handler sitting on the center island with his sign and I stopped at the line and my fan kicked in.... :D he jusmped and the stood up and moved cause he was getting blasted...cracked me up...not in a mean way, just at the force, volume and heat of that rocket fan.

Oh, I know it. Got some dirty looks from some guys I ride with. All I could do is smile at them ;D while the sweat rolls off their face.
