Any questions about the rally, feel free to ask.
Congrats on being an IBR finisher.

Curious your tire choice and how that worked out?

Anything surprise you on how the S10 performed?

Should you do another IBR, what would you do differently, whether about the bike or you?

@wera688, HUGE congratulations on finishing well in this 2023 Iron Butt Rally! Very excellent riding! Those S-10’s are great bikes with that Yamaha reliability!

My tire choice was Dunlop Trailmax Missions. My last set got 25K front and 21K rear, so no issues with tire life during the rally. I've got 2 Teneres with over 340,000 miles on them combined, no issues and that was one reason I liked the ST as a rally bike. Simple design with relative no bike issues to speak of. I'll probably put my name in for 2025 IBR. Bike prep and rider wise, not many changes I can think of. Routing and attacking the rally, for sure to be more aggressive with routes, mileage and finishing position. I prepped by changing oils, filters, wheel bearings and a valve check a few months before. I do need my shock and forks serviced.

Interesting. I had no idea Missions got that kind of mileage.

Yeah it does seem the S10 is a good rally choice. If my memory serves me, this years count of 6 S10s is the most ever.

no maintenance was preformed during the IBR. no oil changes. I've sampled my oil on +10,000 trips and it's ok. I have post IBR sample being tested now. Very few riders changed oil during the IBR. Sleep, we had rest bonuses worth good points for minimum of 4 hrs to max of 8. I took the max time allowed and usually got 4-6 hrs a night when not part of a rest bonus.

I’m glad to read all your stuff but especially about the Dunlop TrailMax Mission tires, I have a brandnew set on right now and hopefully they will make it to Alaska and back, about 10,000 miles. I believe they are one of the best all around tires for the Super Tenere.

I was the rider on the red Tenere, though from Australia and not Ireland. I purchased the bike 7 months ago and the previous owner was good enough to store it for me until my arrival. He also was gracious enough to fit the auxiliary tank, GPS's, heated gear and lights that I had sent over prior to arrival.
This is my third S10, two gen 1 here in Australia and the red gen 2 that I am storing in the states for future rallies.
I finished the rally in 33rd with 11,107 miles for the 11 days. I too ran the Trailmax tires and can't say enough about their longevity.
Looking forward to getting back to the states and participating in the LDX rally next June.IMG20230627055322_resize_32.jpg
