Can Someone help me out. I need a phot of the inside of an OEM Top Box. I bought a top box off a guy in here and didn't realize he wasn't going to include a lock. All I havr is a hole with a plastic latch on the top to close the lid. I need to see what the backside of the lock looks like. Is it different than the side cases? Also when I bought the bike the bike came with 3 extra bag locks. He didn't have a key but I'm hoping they will work and I can take them to a locksmith and have them keyed all the same from the ignition key.

The three locks that come with the bike ARE keyed to the ignition of your own bike, assuming it's a brand new bike.
Unfortunately I only have pictures of the boxes but not in the angle you're looking for, I could go by memory but I don't want to throw something in there and then you'll have springs jumping around.

If you have the three lock cylinders that came with the bike, one of them simply bolts into the top box with the two small security torx screws and backing plate that come with the lock cylinder. BTW, these screws should be loctited.... if they come loose, it is very difficult to get inside the bag. The side bags are essentially the same.

The protocol is supposed to be that the lock cylinders stay with the bike since Yamaha includes them with every bike. This way someone can always add bags and have them keyed to the ignition.

I think it is pretty much self-explanatory, but if you need a diagram of how the lock cylinders bolt into the bag, I can get you one.

Here is a photo of mine. Maybe someone can just tell me if I have everything I need to finish the job. These are the lock cylinders that the guy gave me with the bike. I don't know why he had 4 extras but they are not keyed to my bikes ignition key.

My top box looks like this

So basically I'm thinking I just need to take one is the lock cylinders to a locksmith with my ignition key and he can make it work for this lock?

Then remove 2 safety Torx from the back of the lock and slide it into the hike in box and refasten. Does that sound about right?

Also is there anything special about our ignition keys on these bikes? Can a locksmith make a spare key or are the spare keys a dealer item?

I know on my jeep Cherokee there is some safety chip in the key and you can't just go have one made.

Yamaha's keys in the US don't have any chips (no immobilizer). You can just copy them mechanically like any key.

All US bikes came with three lock cylinders matching the ignition. Sounds like your originals went AWOL at some point and someone bought a spare set of lock cylinders. I don't know what you have to do to have them match your ignition. I assume you have keys to these lock cylinders?

As I said before, it's pretty much self-explanatory how the lock cylinders go into the bags and then are secured on the inside with the plate and two screws. Start fiddling with it and you'll figure it out.

Anyone have an idea how all of this fits back together? Is there a diagram somewhere? Also when I took off the plastic cover part this spring popped out. The long spring you see in the pic. No idea where it would go. It's a pretty stiff spring.

That extra spring has got to be some type of return spring for the plastic latch that attaches the lid to the box but I cannot for the life of me figure out how this would connect to the latch. I've google searches for diagrams but find nothing.

Finally figured it out and as luck would have it all 4 of those cylinders are keyed to my ignition key. The previous owner said they were not but I figured I'd try just for kicks and they work.

Here is a photo of where the latch return spring goes. Just incase someone is dumb and takes the entire latch mechanism off like I did but shouldn't have.
