I just purchased a set of Mitas E-07's (my third set) from an online source and I biffed it and purchased the wrong size front tire. Instead of purchasing a 110/80-19, I purchased a 100/90-19 :(

Can I safely use this narrower tire, or should I just bite the bullet and order another? Returning the tire for exchange may be a bit costly, but It'll be much cheaper than crashing if the front end washes out on me, especially on pavement.

Please let me know your input.

Thanks!

Are you sure it's a tubeless tire? That size is commonly used on wheels requiring tubes.

There's not a whole lot of difference in a 110/80 and a 100/90, so I would hold the tires up side by side and see just how close it is. One example is the Honda 750 Spirit. For some reason Honda put a 110/80-19 on the front and as far as I know the only tire maker that makes a 100% 110/80 street tire is Bridgestone and it's rather pricey so we install another brand of tire in a 100/90 and you can tell any difference.

I did put them side by side earlier and there didn't seem to be that much of a difference.

Not a big difference. Maybe 1/4" in width, and overall circumference nearly the same. I would run it without worry.

No problem fitting either... I've used both sizes on my Tiger 800.. (Same tyre sizes).

I'm not sure wether it was a real problem...
But I have read a tread where there was problem with CC, and as I remember it, it was only because the front and rear tyre was not at the same wear (front or rear was more worn out than the other)
That coused the sensors to "read" different speed, and CC turned off.

So, if we assume the above was the problem, you might get same problem.

Should not be a problem.
IF IF IF the cruise control is not happy, you'll know in the first hundred yards, but I doubt it will happen.

I would think the speed sensor reads off the rear tire.
Maybe, I never really read something that made me sure of this. But I'm refering to rotation speed.
And I'm sure that the rotation speed is monitored from both wheel all the time, and if there is something that not is at is it supposed to be, CC will turn off.
Like CC will turn off, if you drive over a hill top, and front wheel is so long time in the air, that is looses speed.

But I'm not sure at all, that the different diameter on the mentioned tire, will give any problem....
But IF a worn out tire gives problem, this also might.

is the load rating OK with the smaller tyre? May not be a practical issue, but if under, could have insurance etc implications should the worst occur.

Don't worry about the cruise, traction control or ABS. There is so much difference in tires there is no way this can be an issue. One tire manufactures tire in a 110/80 may be 1/4 inch taller or shorter than the next manufactures tire. A lot of tires will have the same size on the side wall and be different circumferences. If the weight rating is up to par (and I'm sure it is) put it on and ride.

Thanks for everyone's input on this. I contacted the seller and was able to do an exchange.

The return shipping for the tire wasn't near as expensive that I thought it would be, and for less than a case of beer I'll have the correct size tire. ::008::
