Probably so. But I can't remember what I did yesterday so I really can't remember where we went for coffee. It's the orange Mexican restaurant.

Signatures ??? we don't need no stinking signatures !!!

Kind of amazing how we discover that many of us have parked in the same lot, walked through the same doors, and enjoyed the same experiences.

Just at different times.

Yea, no answer to a call is a sad implication. That is my breakfast spot for years.
Fins is my outdoor patio\porch supper spot. I always have the BlueCheese burger at least once per island visit.

The kids (college age mostly) and Brenda & I have had so many awesome times on the island. Fishing, camping, and even a few times of taking over the north wing of the Best Western.

Perhaps it will be a while, but I still have great hope it will rise again.

I was told that every food place in port A was " destroyed ", what that means is any ones guess , heard that castaways has no plans to rebuild.... dolphin docks for a fishing trip is open for business , and doing the business from a portable building.... that's is on their website... quite the mess I think...

read an article on port A in salt water angler, said wow after understanding what I was reading and seeing in the photograph. so picture this those of you that have been to port A . when you ride the ferry across the channel no problem. and if your going straight to beach you would just drive straight through town not turning off the street your on. after you pass the last house as you get to the part of the road that makes a S curve to the beach, you will pass the university of Texas Marine science building right before you get on the beach...... better have good brakes because the beach is not there, all of the beach at the seawall is gone, nothing but water . some of the jetty rocks (giant granite cut into blocks , 20tons each I bet ) have rolled into the channel . most of the walk way on top of the jetty has been destroyed . the photo seemed to show an area of from the old waters edge to the UT marine science building gone. probably about a half mile , how wide the writer did not say. looks like the bay on both sides of the jetty. you have the jetty as a boundary on one side the dunes ( what saved the ut building) on another the beach front another, and the pier. so that's the box. how far toward the pier not sure but the photo suggest not much beach left there at all. from the old waters edge to ut building half mile ( maybe a little less ) from jetty to pier half mile . that's the area.....

google port A and you will find videos of the damage, also a video showing the beach loss at the jetty . not as wide an area which is good but still a mess.

It's amazing to see, post Vegas, how the media have moved on & forgotten this disaster, along with the medium/long term implications.

Agreed - And no offense to Texas or Florida (it's always worse when it's your own situation) but Puerto Rico apparently dwarfs them both.

I've worked there a couple of times and couldn't imagine driving a truck before the storm!

I could argue I have been more affected by Puerto Rico hurricane than Harvey. (which actually trashed my place)

Because of the nature of it being an island and the absolute necessity to bring aid by air, and the fact that the power grid in Puerto Rico was totally destroyed..........

Let's just put it this way, My CEO took it upon himself to get a couple of the smaller airports up and running, no matter what it takes.

Satellite Phone call: Hey dude! I need electricity, internet and phones at 2 runways. (small airports) I know you can do it. (He's a master manipulator) Can I have it in say....48 hours?

It's been a heck of a ride boys. I need sleep, if you know what I mean. And I gotta tell ya, my part was easy. I've witnessed some AMAZING things related to this hurricane aftermath.

There you go again, with your knowing what matters.

Wreckerchecker, you love this airplane stuff more than me. YOU would have loved to have been on the ground and watch the whole thing happen.

Airplanes were loaded and ready to land with relief. But even the FAA was offline.
You know my baby Yamaha generators?

Seriously, we loaded all 3 on a jet. Went to Ohio to pick up a dude with 2 satellite internet rigs. I programmed a few VoIP phones off our switch in Houston. Hauled it all VFR (is that the term?) to TJIG airport.

Then helicopterd the dude and stuff to a second remote airport with zero infrastructure.

Next thing ya know, electricity, data, phones! Flight plans started rolling in. And we were fueling them and getting them back off the runway fast!

Amazing stuff started to happen immediately at those 2 runways. Wicked cool to participate.

All this while the island still had almost nothing lit.

Don't take this wrong, but I'm emotionally hurricane proof now.
Survived a punch that I just don't think will ever be matched.
Or put another way, it's no longer a fear of the unknown. I've met the jerk. ;)

if you have breath , there is hope. despair is there to rob one of hope , and when that happens you truly have nothing. don't let despair take root , it is part of life , no one looks forward to the trials that come our way.... life is not fair its just life... for those facing a new hurricane threat, there is time to get ready , you have seen what they bring.... if after all this and all your material things are gone , it will be hard . but there is hope , you have your family ,friends , a new chance , you have life.... I have not personally met snake bitten , but from all I have read and from those that have met the snake , he is well liked and respected . a man who gives up , a man who quits , a man who lives in despair , that man no one respects.... and that is not snake bitten... from the bits and pieces from reading these post we see a man who has had a lot and has given a lot , but he keeps on going . trials are painful in what ever form they come in , but they don't last forever . if they do its because one has given up on hope .... other than the ones we love its all just stuff. thanks for being the man you are snake bitten , you may be the example that some one on the verge of despair might see and take hope that all is not lost. thanks.
