Hi.
Is there any way of knowing what is the correct spring rate depending your weight?? My weight on gear is 95 kg. I ride mostly two up and my girlfriends weight on gear is 80 kg. Plus around 35 kg of luggage. A total of 210 kg more or less.
Do you think that the Ohlins spring 1096-54/140 would be ok for my need? Or should I go higher? Next one would be 59/150 meaning 857 lb/in.
What spring are you getting???

Thanks a lot

^^^^ Definitely check the various on-line spring calculators for rates to get you in the ballpark. Real world data is your best bet.

A good suspension shop should be able to dial you in pretty close. IMO the 857# spring would be very marginal for the load you mention, and you'll end up with excessive preload to get close to proper sag and ride height. FWIW, I'm running a 1000# spring on my Penske, two-up with loads very similar to yours. When it's just rider and luggage I use a 900# spring.

Just my $.02

I run the 15 kg spring. I'm <> 115 kg, and my missus <> 90 kg. As setup, with hydraulic preload wound right off, it works for me solo, with her, preload wound right on, good enough too with a couple of clicks more rebound and less compression. You seem to be on the cusp of 14 or 15.

Berg how are you.
So based on the difference in weight, would you think I will be ok with the 800 lb/in spring? Doing some calculation you and your wife are 20 kg heavier than us and you are running the next spring from ours.
What spring you got a 1096 or a 1099?.

Thanks

Just a note to comment that the spring rate calculator at Race Tech applies only to the non-ES version. There are big differences between the ES and standard with respect to rear spring rates.

I don't recall the number, but the spring I have equates to a 15 kg spring. As I said, I suspect you are on the boundary of a 14 or 15. Not knowing how and where you ride, its hard to make a recommendation. I'm very happy with how it works for me as is, the rear hooks up, and the ride is plush, like an Ohlins. But, it did have to be revalved for the 15 kg spring, not enough rebound stock. I also have the spacers moved internally for about 20 mm more ride height, which is also extra travel.
