I think it has to do with the weight distribution, as I noticed my 08 FJR was far more difficult to center stand than the ST. I frequently removed the bags on the FJR (those stock ones were heavy, plus I had a Givi top trunk), whereas I park the ST on the center stand daily, and very rarely remove the panniers.
